Koreans Three Hits Lead Miners To 5-3 Win.
Fairbanks, AK (PSN) - Song Dong Yong has experienced some success since transferring to the states. Not quite like this, though.
His three hits, including a long home run, was the decisive hit as the Fairbanks Gold Miners knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays in the Igloo Series 5-3.
Teddy Sheridan and Pedro Alvarez also homered for the Miners, who raises their record to 17-12 with the win.
The Miners had to actually put up some runs, which was odd knowing their best pitcher, Robby Kloog, took the mound. He struggled through 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and four walks. But those didn't pay dividends as the Jays were only able to scratch just one run across.
Gerrit Cole came on and tossed 2 and 2/3 innings of relief, allowing just three hits. GIant Sandwich Melendez continues to regroup and pitch well, just allowing a solo home run to Edwin Encarnacion before notching his ninth save.
Notes: Cristobal Huaranga was sent back to triple A to work on his swing. "Poor lad hasn't picked up the speed of the game," said manager W.Z. Nelson, "plus he needs to get consistent at bats to fix what is ailing his swing."
