Game was on too late, and conflicted with the Matlock reruns. Fell asleep during 4th quarter.
Looks like USC does just fine against traditional drop-back pocket passers (read: slow, clear, immobile). Offense does well when they mix things up. Whodathunkit? In any case, nice win for USC, but Oregon State doesn't scare anybody.
Sadly, it was about as uninspiring as a 35-10 win can be. Certainly 'luck' can have an impact on any game, but we had a pick-6, another pick in the end zone as the Beavers were ready to score, and then the hail mary TD as time expired at half time. Take two of those away, and the game may have unfolded very differently. Oh, and let's not forget converting 3 of 3 4th downs, including one WTF? moment when Sark went for it from our own 30.
The good:
-Kessler was solid. I'm not quite as down on him as Basin, but I think we all know he's not a superstar QB who's going to win a title on his own. That being said, he moved well, he was very accurate while on the run, and he made good decisions. He's got 10 TD's and 0 picks on the year, so far.
-Su'a Cravens. Dude looked like he was just playing faster than everyone else on the field. He was everywhere.
-D-line did a decent job. Not a great job, but a decent job. They made Mannion move his feet, and that gets him into trouble.
The bad/ugly:
-O-line let way too much pressure in on Kessler.
-Dem penalties. Lawd. 14 for 124 yards. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.
I don't know what to think yet, and the season's a third over. There's enough talent to beat UCLA, ASU, Oregon (if we and they got to the CCG), but there's also so little depth and such sloppy play at times that losses to mediocre/shitty teams wouldn't surprise me.
