Return To Sender: Mononobe's Pick Party Powers Leafa's Pluck

The defencive captain and strong safety for Dan Harding's Leafa Spirit Gridiron, Ray Mononobe had his best outing in the colors of the Green and Gold and White, making seven tackles and three interceptions as Leafa methodically wore down the Boise State Broncos, 122-20, at Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho, USA despite closing the opening term with a 10-3 quarter time lead. Quarterback Shae Katou-Aki was poor under center, passing for 241 yards and an interception but made up for his unproductive arm with overproducing legs, rushing for 312 yards and nine touchdowns.
Halfback Jack Fukushina ran for 206 yards and a major, halfback Dana Rinaldi ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns, wide receiver Jiji Petricca caught seven passes for 85 yards and wideout Jarryd Kaizuka was a one-man blocking crew, recording a personal-best 31 pancake blocks on the day.
Cornerback Vern Dahlgren returned an interception 11 yards for a touchdown on defence while strong safety Gilles Troyard recorded two sacks and five tackles for loss. Middle linebacker Rhys Miyazawa led the defence in tackling with 18 tackles and five tackles for loss while outside linebacker Wes Narukami added 16. In relief, defensive tackle Shaun Hijirikawa returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown while two other players on defence also had a pick.
Leafa improve to 5-0 and continue their race for their fifth straight BCS Championship next weekend when they host the UNLV Rebels at Subaru Pleiades Stadium in Canberra, ACT.
