The two fastest people in the world ran the second and third leg in the 2012 olympics for jamaica.

It has to do with synergy and the baton pass chemistry more than anything else.

Spent some time this afternoon hitting a field hockey ball with my daughter. What I took away:

1) this is truly a sport for short people.

2) there is a reason that they play on turf. We were only passing about 5-10 yards but the ball went nowhere even when hit in the sweet spot. The long grass just kills any momentum.

3) Dribbling the ball on grass is also hard. Again grass kills the momentum.

Its actually played a lot on grass in the UK, at least when I was younger.

More and more schools seem to have 3g or astro pitches now though.

Also you bend at your knees not just your waist.
