I'm essentially paying for picks at this point. I'd like to keep those two and hopefully kasib and keine pan out. Gives me some flexibility to trade some of my other prospects for draft picks

Kasib can go now if you wanted (and you should, go all in) and Keine will be good to go next year.

I feel pretty confident my our line-up right now. I dont see an easy out there. Would have loved Rapley to get my rotation set for a run, but I think we aight.

Most likely, I'll call Kasib sometime this season. Kind of worried about him getting shelled in AAA since that seems the norm. Agreed on Keine next year. I think Nazvanov might be ready to go this year too if memory serves

Put Kasib in ST to see how he does. Slot him 1st so he gets the most starts. If he beasts you gotta just let it ride, fuck the payroll.

OU setting me up

I'm just saying I'd do it. He's as ready as Torres and Okada. Plus putting him in ST doesn't start his clock anyway IIRC, it just burns an option year which if you are bringing him up later he will burn anyway

Not really. He has a .391 OBP in the majors. I don't need him to steal, I need him to be there when Ammar, Ruiz, or Sally tee off
I'd flip him and Alonzo just to get some speed at the top and Vis would still be batting before the big bats.

Am I wrong to assume that someone you expect to be a major contributor in your lineup for years...that option years really don't mean shit with them?

Speed doesn't matter, he makes it to first 39% of the time which is more than any other player I have. If Zo's OBP is higher after a while I'll flip them, but Zo traditionally hits harder which I'd also like someone on base for

Yep all baseball studies show speed means nothing in terms of where to put it in the order. If anything it makes less sense to have speed at the top because why do you need to steal bases when 3-4-5 are your best power hitters? OBP before SLG on the other hand does matter...

Depends. A guy like Kasib? No, but someone a little more iffy that takes longer to develop yeah. I remember I had an 18 year old I claimed off waivers in the UBL that I had to burn an option year for every year and he had to be on the active roster before he was ready at 21 IIRC

I know this is hyperbole, but its not true at all.

Yeah, that was what I was getting at. A stud like Kasib, who gives 2 shits about his option years. Once hes in the WBL, hes not gonna go back to AAA.

Phil Thomas: from straight salary dumped twice in one year to 2/17 + 14m TO.

This has really been the off-season of the average player getting paid. I guess a part of that is the economy of the game currently but more so than any other year I can remember.

It's basic logic and all true. Why would you want to steal bases when your best hitters are up who generate the most extra base hits?
Its not all about stealing bases. OBP is #1 for the lead-off hitter, but speed is #2. Your best hitters give that player the most chances to run the bases and score runs.

In this example, Vis is an overall better hitter than Alonzo. Your best hitter should really hit second or fourth. Vis is basically perfect for the second spot and Alonso for lead-off. There are obviously different schools of thought in line-up construction though.

It is due to more teams competing, key role players that fit specific needs are getting driven up.

Vis hits less XBH doe. And he isn't near an overall better hitter either, he just walks a ton.

And I think the DH is a factor as well.

Teams are getting better about filling out rosters 1-25. I thought the biggest factor in winning an extra 3-4 games and making the playoffs last year was some bench players I picked up that squeezed out some extra value.

I've definitely starting paying more attention to the types of players I fill the backup positions with. It's more of a puzzle than it used to be

Guys like Duan and @osick87 signee Pedro Martinez used to go unsigned and I scoop them up as MLFA. Many times I'd use them on my UBL/WBL teams in defensive specialist roles and hope they were LH too so I could give my starters some rest too. Now more teams are getting these type of guys so you can use your roster 1-25 instead of having just shitty back up MIFs who can't do anything but just fill in if someone gets hurt.

I actually have a lot of these type guys coming through my system. I've picked up a couple UDFA and MLFA's who can fit these roles for me in future years so I can save a little cash.

I am doing a force generate, which is updating everyone. Its taking longer. The regular update said it would cover players changing teams, but i guess it didnt.

I wasnt able to do this in FA as much as I wanted to because I had most my money wrapped up in pursuing Rapley. I didnt have many places to add though. Not sure I signed a single FA.
