Dropped the Arizona Cardinals in FF for the Saints D. Do not disappoint me.
They should be even better this year. Assuming they have relatively good health, I can't see why they can't be a top ten d this year

That's what I was thinking when I saw them in the FA market lol. Somebody picked the Eagles' D in my league in the 2nd round.

Seth:
I'm a New Orleans transplant who until recently worked at a bar in the city. Every Sunday, employees would wear Saints jerseys. Since I collect throwbacks, I decided to buy an Archie Manning jersey to wear to work. Hey, everyone down here claims to be "a lifelong Saints fan," so surely they'd appreciate the organization's first quarterback/one of only four retired numbers in team history, right?

To date, maybe three people I've interacted with while wearing it didn't bother asking me outright whose jersey it was. One of them was Archie Manning himself. He was literally shoved out of the way by some mouth-breathing hick in a Drew Brees jersey who asked me where I got "dat custom jersah wid yo name awn da back."

That was almost as sad as the time this exceptionally trashy group of Metairie people - yes, even trashy for Metairie's non-existent standards - wanted to know why I'd be wearing an Eli ManningSaints jersey, before explaining to each other that the Saints drafted Eli Manning, but traded him for Drew Brees and a first round pick "and dey used dat first-rounda ta draft Reggeh Bush da yeah dey won da Supa Bowwwwwwwwl."

Cowboys fans may be fair-weathered scumbags, but at least they'd recognize a Roger Staubach jersey if they saw it in public. Then again, so would the "lifelong Saints fans," since most of them cheered for the Cowboys until Katrina.

Why? Reddick couldn't get in the rotation and butler was coming off an injury

So sad I missed this. What a fantastic comment. Doesn't Brick live in Metarie?

Those "lifelong Saints fans" he mentions are basically the same people I can stand (any fan base). Only follow footbaw because of fantasy, don't know fuck all about tactics or rules or anything like that.

we agree on this

Re: Brick,

he lived in Metairie, but i think he actuallly lives in NO now. iirc, i think he lives off St.Charles or somewhere in that area which is why he is scared to roll through the hood

just some random thoughts of reflection

so the saints sucked this year. Cant decide which was the worst year for the saints with Brees at qb. This past one or the bountygate one.

I kept thinking that the loss of Harper, Vilma, Jenkins, W.Smith, etc...wouldnt have been that bad b/c they were "on their last legs".

Jenkins was the only one who had a season worth mentioning, but i think the system he was in made him more productive. Not taking away from the year he had but it was obvious he thrived more in Philly in one season than probably his entire career collectively in N.O.

Graham got paid, but also got hurt and was never the same this year and it showed.

Brees is on the decline and probably has been for a while but always seem to manage to pull one out of thin air to keep up his "legacy". But this year, that wasnt the case. The OL had issues protecting him all year and he still hasnt learned to throw the ball away.

The WR core was pretty meh. Brandin Cooks made me a believer, but he got hurt. Colston obviously wasnt the same this year either. SO MANY DROPPED BALLS, but i wonder how much of that was on Brees.

Ingram stepped up and almost had 1000 yd season. I dont think they bring him back for some strange reason.

The defense took a HUGE step back, but in their defense, they were decimated with injuries, but despite that, they still played respectable bend but dont break defense at certain points throughout the year.

So the offseason comes and Rob Ryan is still on staff, but they let go a bunch of position coaches and brought in some new ones. Also see the saints looking to the CFL to see if they can strike gold there.

Gonna do a "reel needs" post later i guess.

Saints hire Dennis Allen to be the head defensive assistant coach and Jeff Ireland as a scouting consultant

I mean, didn't Miami draft some pretty good players under his watch? I would think their woes were more of their coaches inability to get the most out of the players

I don't think he ever had any decent drafts. He's found a couple of decent players, but whiffed on a lot. Considering he spent last season with Seattle under some good personnel maybe he's learned from past mistakes. Dunno though. Time will tell, or this draft.

Have no idea who the saints should take with their first round pick

the defense overall was pretty bad this year but actually played very well during a stretch during the season

but injuries at key positions did have a huge impact on what they were able to do/not do

I dont think Rob was a one hit wonder, but i think they had to switch back to the 4-3 due to the injuries

I know they go defense, just not sure if its corner or lineman or hell even LB

I want to trade back for more picks because I really want a CB, but they can be had later in the first. Would take Dante Fowler Jr at 13, go gata

i think they really like the DB they just signed from the CFL as an immediate fill in so that takes the pressure off drafting one in the first round

Cant count on that kid for shit

Lets not make the champ bailey mistake again and be left holding our dicks

Although i expect us to sign a db in FA, and draft a pass rusher

WAAAAAAAAAAA??

So you didnt like them getting Hicks out of the CFL?

I wasnt saying the db was an all pro or anything but at this point, he is "proven" and you arent waiting on him to tap into his potential whereas if you draft someone and he doesnt immediately fill that need, then it was a wasted pick

yeah, count on the CFL guy just like the Chiefs did with Weston Dressler. Labeled as Dex McCluster's 'replacement'.

didn't even make the practice squad.

bruin, idk how many saints games you watched last year, but they were terribad at the DB position. He is there to fill a need with experience. My hope is that he has a decent IQ for the position and can be serviceable. Im not expecting the guy to be R.Sherman, but im hoping he cant be any worse than the players from last season.
