Guess that means both Houston and Kansas City are going to the West next year. MLS could do something like this:
Eastern Conference
Atlantic Division: DC, New England, New York, New York City, Philadelphia
Central Division: Chicago, Columbus, Montreal, Orlando, Toronto
Western Conference
Midwest Division: Colorado, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Salt Lake
Pacific Division: Los Angeles, Portland, San Jose, Seattle, Vancouver
3 games in the division
2 games against the other division in the conference
1 game against the teams in the other conference
In 2017 Atlanta goes to the Atlantic and Los Angeles 2 goes to the Pacific.
In 2018 Miami goes to the Central and Team 24 goes to the Midwest.
Play teams in your conference twice, other conference once.
Top 8 in each conference make the playoffs or top 6 make the playoffs and division winners get byes to the conference semifinals.
I guess you could do the top 6 format next year as well.
