Havre Athletic (A) - Win 4-1 - Goal explosion in the second half, Batshuayi had a good game finally! (Now in 2nd place with a 2pt lead!)

Marseille (H) - Win 2-1 - BABBY WE GOT A STREAK GOIN!

The key goal here was a Fortunis to Ntep far post cross. LOVE THAT PLAY. Was hoping Batshuayi was going to get hot, but he had a quiet game. The defense played well in general but they had one brain fart late and let a breakaway happen. Lille ended up losing their game too, so now we are in second place and have a 5pt lead over #3!

Bordeaux (A) - Win 1-0 - NTEP SAVES THE DAY! Streak at 6 straight wins!

After the game Ntep asked for a contract raise/extension and I gave it to him because I was able to entice him with some goal bonuses and such while keeping the contract pretty reasonable.

Lille (H) - Draw - 1-1 WHISKEY PLAY!

While a draw might have looked frustrating, I entered the game with Lille in 2nd place and enough points behind that a draw here with only 2 games left basically locked me to finish higher than them. Lyon was still barely within striking distance if they won their game, but with 2 relatively easy games left, a draw here was a fine result! @Brick

Racing Club Lens (A) - Win 3-1 - Officially locked up second place!

PSG has an incredible 20 point lead over me, and I've got a 6 point lead over Lyon with one game left to play. What an amazing run we've made in the last quarter of the season. It is worth noting that Lyon won the Euro Cup as well, so they probably had some distractions that helped me jump to the #2 spot down the stretch.

Nice (H) - Win 3-0 - LAST GAME OF THE SEASON - Diarra Super Sub

With a sluggish game tied 0-0 at halftime, I subbed on Diarra and he scored 2 goals and also contributed the assist on the final goal. LAWD Diarra the super sub. He wasn't doing much this quarter when I started him several times, but he still managed to excel in his substitute role. Pretty interesting. It is also worth noting that I finished the season with 79 points, which is actually 4 points better than the mark I won Ligue1 with last year. The main difference is that PSG finished with an incredible 97 points. I also scored 12 more goals than last season, while giving up 2 more than last season.

2015-2016 End of Season Review - Stade Rennais Accolades

Not as many individual accolades this season for Stade Rennais, despite the great second place finish. In Mr. Managers third year with SR, this was the highest Ligue 1 point total with 79 points (75 and 74 the previous seasons, respectively). Fortunis lead Ligue 1 in assists, was selected to both Ligue1 all star teams, and finished 3rd in the stars of the competition award. Sam Byram was actually selected as the Starting XI RB, which was surprising because his Ligue 1 rating was only a 6.96. Davy Propper should have definitely been selected, based on his awesome average rating (2nd highest in Ligue1) but he spent about half the season playing CAM and half the season playing CM, so the judges probably didn't know where to put him. Among other interesting statistics, Cheick Diarra finished 3rd in Ligue 1 in minutes per goal.

2015-2016 End of Season Review - Confidence Review and Financial Developments.

The board is apparently tough to please at this point! "Content" "Satisfactory" and "adequate" were the words the board chose to use in describing my performance, lol. Apparently they are a bit spoiled based on last season's multiple trophies. Definitely didn't do as well as anticipated in either the Champions League or the Euro Cup and also didn't do as well in the cup matches as I had in previous years. Mr. Manager may be looking to the bottle again if this is how the board continues to set their expectations!

15995457603_0f3aa3df5a_b.jpg

New Wage/Transfer Budget set by Board:
The board set my initial player budget at $1.1 Million per week and gave me a transfer budget of $51.33 Million as well. For comparison, Last season my initial budget was $825k p/w and my initial transfer budget was $25 Million. LAWD
16614981311_2ab9f8fed4_b.jpg

Player Wages:
Below is my player wage schedule and below that is a snapshot of the first team player wages at the end of the season, sorted by highest salary. The wage scale I set at the beginning of the season is still basically intact, but contract negotiations throughout the year had player wages increasing to the top end of their wage range. A good example of that is Diarra, who I was going had to re-sign in 2017 anyway. I had him for cheap all season and then last month I decided to open negotiations early and give him a raise and contract extension to the top end of the "1st team" wage scale I have proposed for next season... but hopefully that will keep me from having to pay him mega bucks if I'd waited longer to negotiate. Either way, I don't have anyone that is glaringly overpaid for their potential and current ratings. Below that I have the contracts that are set to expire. I'm letting 3 first team players walk. Danze, Allee, and Doucoure along with several reserve and youth players I don't have plans for. I have a couple of free transfers incoming as well, but I'll get into those in a season preview post.

16590093436_397530cdec_b.jpg

Lizard Math:
The graph shows the overall club balance since Mr. Manager started corching. We finished the season with a balance of $78.3 Million. Last season we finished with a balance of 60.1 Million. That means we made a net profit of 18.2 Million this season. Not as good as last year, but still headed in the right direction!

2015-2016 End of Season Review - Player and Team Performance Wrap up and Final League Standings

@NML, @goblue96, @osick87, @fignuts @Travis7401SUCKSDICK , @DeadMan @Deadmong @GatorTD @Brick @Yankee151 @Milo @Reel with some fuckshit

MVP: It is very hard to pick an MVP this season, as Propper, Fortunis, Ntep, M'Bengue, and even Cheick Diarra all made compelling cases for themselves with their play. In the end, I will have to pick Fortunis ever so slightly over Ntep. He played the vast majority of the games and he was extremely consistent at putting up solid performances. Between goals and assists, he had a hand in 28 goals, which was over 1/3rd of the total goals scored by SR in all competitions.

Strikers: Last season, Zaza and Kleber were the most consistent strikers on the team. I was hoping they would continue playing well and that the addition of Batshuayi would make SR formidable. Cheick Diarra was included in the squad as a rotational player only, and I was planning on playing him in cup games or against poor competition or using him as an occasional sub. It is funny how things work out, because Diarra led all strikers with 15 goals and 5 assists, despite only having 14 total starts all season. Zaza split time between the striker and the CAM position, but he had a good season when he wasn't injured, contributing 11 goals and 6 assists. Batshuayi was frustrating and one of the most inconsistent players on the team. At times he showed his true potential and had several great games with multiple goals and assists. In other games he would completely disappear. He managed to account for 10 goals and 8 assists in 26 starts, but most of those stats came from literally 5 of his starts. Kleber was the true disappointment, as he was injured for most of the season and never really played well when he recovered. Eventually he just rode the bench.

Attacking Mids/Wingers: This was definitely the strong point of the team this year. Ntep, Fortunis, and Propper where all MVP candidates for the team and finished #1,#2, and #3 in average rating for the team this season. Propper spent some of his time playing in the CM spots and the group was also joined by Zaza who played CAM occasionally. The starters played so well and were so consistent and injury free that a big new signing in Wijnaldum #1 was limited in playing time to 24 stars. Dembele also showed some promise as a rotational player and looks forward to seeing more time in the future. This is such a good solid group with lots of talent and depth, probably the best unit Mr. Manager has had in his time at SR.

Central Midfielders: I feel like this group took a bit of a step back from last year until I started using Propper in this role as well, and then things got better. Several of the players spent significant time down with injuries or just playing poorly. One of the new additions, Stroble, turned out to be a borderline psycho and couldn't make it 45 minutes without picking up a yellow card and his passing and decision making was pretty poor at times as well. When Pajot was out with an injury, the team really struggled with lack of playmakers in the midfield (which is why I shifted Propper back). To address this, Mr. Manager acquired Jorginho, a promising looking playmaker on a free contract. Overall, Perreira was probably the most consistent player in the central midfield. He didn't have a lot of flashy games, but he was regularly performing well and I could count on him to not let the team down. Mr. Manager will consider a slight formation shift to take advantage of having more playmakers next season and also to put Stroble into a better position to be a wrecking ball. With the addition of Jorginho and some tactical re-thinking, this group should be stronger and deeper than ever next year. The one concern is that Pajot will be looking for a new contract and he might want more than Mr. Manager will be willing to offer.

Defense/Goalies: I feel like despite having more depth this year, this group took a very slight step backwards as well. The starters all had good seasons, and the lowest rated of the bunch, Sam Byram, actually was rewarded by being named to the Ligue1 Starting XI... go figure. There were a couple of stretches during the season when M'Bengue and Danze were both injured and the young Wijnaldum #2 and Byram were pressed into service and the defense ended up getting shredded. Fortunately, both Wijnaldum and Byrum improved and showed they can be future starters. Toward the end of the season, after a long injury, Danze really started to drop off as well and Mr. Manager felt vindicated in letting his contract expire. Hard to see him go, because he's been a defensive stalwart since the first season, but it is clear his time is up. M'Bengue continued to be the most consistent defender and Wague and Abdolaye both had great seasons as the starting CB pair. Peybernes proved to be a very versatile and good starter at both the CB and RB positions. He was especially valuable as a sub when the team needed a bit more speed to guard against puber lobbed through ball teams. De Vrij was also good in his backup role and Costil had another solid season at GK. Most of the same crew should be returning next season, with one new face showing up at RB to replace the departing Danze.

16590238566_ec2cec8f75_b.jpg

Schedule Review:

This season was far more streaky than last, and the results outside of Ligue 1 weren't as good. There were a couple of REALLY bad streaks where Mr. Manager was suspected to be back on the Whiskey again. Fortunately, the season ended on a strong positive note with a 8 wins and a draw in the final 9 games of the Ligue 1 schedule. That strong finish launched SR from their 4th place spot to 2nd in Ligue1 and assured them a spot in the Champions League again next season. Hopefully a more stable roster will result in much more stable and better season in all competitions next season!

Ligue 1 final standings and Summary of performance in all competitions:

With their strong push in the last quarter of the season, SR finished with their highest point total yet during Mr. Manager's corching tenure. Unfortunately, PSG had a season for the ages, finishing with a whopping 97 points. A comfortable second place finish isn't as exciting as winning the league title last season, but it was still a good year and the real difference was things outside of our control. The team's performance in other competitions was pretty lacking last season, and this was the first year during Mr. Manager's tenure that the team didn't capture a single trophy. :( For those of you who are interested in such things, Bayern Munich won the Champions League, PSG won the French Cup, and Lyon won the Euro Cup.

Djadiri Konate - He went from Mean Muggin in his first picture to smiling the next two seasons. Most importantly, he's advanced nicely over the past few years, adding at least +1 in all of his important stats as a poacher. I think he's still a season away from full time Senior Squad sub, but I don't need to look for any young strikers!

16616735705_7ce4d73424_b.jpg

Kevin Papin - I loaned him out this season to another club to see how well that would work on player development. I wasn't super pleased, as they didn't play him much and I wasn't smart enough to put a recall clause in his contract. He'll be staying with us next season and will be a starter on the Reserve team as a defensive midfielder and will also be replacing Doucoure as a substitute and rotational player with the senior squad!

Brian Perrin - I sold this dude to Monaco for $7 Million. It was too much for me to turn down, especially since I have other good youth CBs. I took that money and invested it in a great looking youth RB to shore up depth in that area, which was the one spot where my youth prospect generation was a little slow. I will go ahead and continue to track him in the future to see how much he kills me.

@Yankee151 Ambasa - Yankee did not grow any in height, but he did manage to put on another 5lbs. Not quite as much of a twink now! He's starting to look like he could be a very good wing player and eventual replacement for Fortunis. That should make Yankee happy, keep progressing rapidly and you'll run the dirty Greek out of the team! His progress wasn't all that great this season, so I'll have to make sure I'm still training everyone correctly.

Donato Desir De Donno - I love it when random name generators just fart out names like this. This guy kind of has a strange skill set, and I think it will lead me to putting him in the first team next season. He will make a decent substitute as a striker in a pinch, and he can also play Ntep's left Inside forward position well. His continued positive improvement is a large part of why I decided not to sign Allee again.

Mohamed Taleb - My favorite terrorist CDM. Not as much progress as I'd like to see, and he's got some strangely low ratings in important spots (teamwork). I think I'll use him as a bit of a training experiment next season.

Jean-Luc Combes -Sold to Monaco for $5 Million. I hade a better GK in the same class. I missed a pic on him last season, but I got one showing his current progress and I'll keep tabs on him in the future

Joseph Gezaw - My Giant Caveman's Physical stats stayed about the same, which is fine because he's already a complete beast man. He got a much needed +1 in his mental stats, and he looks like he's the CB of the future!

ADDITION to the 2014 class:
The 2014 youth class was really missing a RB, so I went out and bought one with some of the money I got from selling Brian Perrin to Monaco. I paid $3.5 million for this dude and he won't be available until January, but he looks solid. Fast, good Acceleration, Strong, Good tackling and Marking stats. He's definitely a defensive minded fullback option, but that will be nice to have as a contrast to Byram.

2015-2016 End of Season Review - 1 year later a spotlight on Select Youth Candidates From the 2015 Youth Class

First of all, I wasn't as good about making sure all my training/tutoring assignments were set up correctly this season, so unfortunately I didn't see as much improvment as I did in the first year of last year's group. They still all have really high potential, so I'm sure I can make up for some of that lost time before they hit the 20-22 year old range where I expect them to be contributing.

Kevin Jeffre - He had relatively minor improvements, but his strength did go up by +2 and he grew an inch. Both pretty important if he's going to be the future of the team in the defensive midfielder spot. I'll have to make sure I do a better job of assigning training and such this season so that he sees more improvement in those areas!
14637894908_18ac58f56a_b.jpg

16617015972_dff9492e76_b.jpg

Jean Jacques Malval - A promising striker who seems to have undergone some sort of strange skin bleaching procedure (@Reel) between seasons. Apparently he was worried that Mr. Manager is racist and that he'd have a better chance getting playing time if he was white? He doesn't know Mr. Manger very well! Only minor improvements, again I blame myself for dropping this season so many times and failing to keep up with youth prospect training and tutoring.

14844368223_a9078fecfd_b.jpg

16430642710_47450484d5_b.jpg

Mecene Nau - Some pretty solid improvements, you can tell I had him tutored. The best part is the Physical improvements +4 strength, +3 Pace and +2 Acceleration!
14822160984_a429fc1b0a_b.jpg

16430465118_c636736821_b.jpg

Gwen Pichon - Yet another promising striker who only saw marginal improvements. SIGH.
14637984787_ebe4093d49_b.jpg

16616563031_929f306f61_b.jpg

Jakob Anderson - Very little improvement, again I blame myself for not tutoring him

16410410077_aa2d406dc0_b.jpg

Daniel Guegan - His solid stat bumps show the power of tutoring. Nice to see this guy learned so much from Danze before his contract was up. I really like seeing that Determination bump from 12 to 16!

Gezaw looks pretty damn good already. Make sure you're tutoring all of these players. There are definitely guides for how to do that, but tutoring is the most important thing after playing time.

Yeah, you can see how I really dicked the dog on the tutoring this last season. Improvements to youth players were MUCH less than they were the season before. I'll do a better job keeping a handle on the tutoring and training aspects this coming season. I've got such a thriving youth program that I'm not too worried about dropping the ball for one season. By the time these dudes are 20-22 I'll have a very solid set of players.

Which brings me to my next "problem" I have 34 players who have 3.5 star or better potential. With my current reputation, 3.5 star potential is a "Leading Ligue 1 Player." (For reference, all of my best players including Fortunis and Ntep have 3.5 star Current ability based on my current reputation). I think I'm going to have to loan some players in order to make sure everyone gets playing time. Any recommendations for who to loan?

I should mention that I finally figured out how to export FM tables to EXCEL (Print Screen -> Text -> Import Text File to EXCEL -> Delimited with "|"). This might not be important to most of you'll, but I prefer to be able to make calculations/averages/etc on ratings and the tables in FM don't really let you do that.

The only things that don't export well are the star symbols for CA/PA.

Man City just offered me $22.5 Million for Fortunis. I told them to go fuck themselves. Fortunis is the #1 fan favorite, lol. I signed a nifty little RW on a free just in case they come back with an even more absurd offer, lol.

I know it is good financial policy to flip players like this, but I also remember what it was like to lose THE FERET and also how players who have good attributes can come in and not gel with the team. I was hoping to carry a lot more continuity over this year.

I've schedule the Friendly matches and I'm approaching July 1st when all my players will be back in town. I'll be working on a set of season preview posts soon!

2016-2017 Season Preview - Revised Wage Scale

Based on the ever increasing demands of players, the built in yearly bumps some of them want in their contracts, and the financial success of SR, I've revised the wage scale that I'll be using to determine if I'm over/under paying for players. I've had over a 30% bump in my salary budget (settled at about $1.3 Million/week) so I tried to make a conservative decision to bump the pay scale by 20%. I've also made a better revision to the "BTT" rating calculations so that instead of having a single rating, players will have BTT ratings in all of the roles I can use them in based on my tactics/formations. I think this will give a better snapshot of the versatility certain players have to offer. The reason I went to the BTT rating system is so that I can be consistent in my evaluation of players across seasons, as the "Current Ability" my ASS CORCH assigns is constantly fluctuating and increases/decreases based on my team's reputation. The BTT scale applies more universally based on player attribute ratings. I know that a 12-13 BTT rating is sufficient for regular playing time in Ligue1 and should probably be in the Senior team or loaned out for first team experience. Anyone under 12 will be a reserve/youth squad player 13+ should be a solid starter. 14+ should be a star and 15+ should be a superstar in Ligue 1. As I do the position breakdowns, I'll highlight players for whom I'm over/underpaying significantly.

Team Review - GK

Costil is still the starter and will be under his current contract for two seasons, so no big worries there. Devis Epassy is the backup, and is on a good salary for his role, but I'll have to renegotiate with him this season. If I can get him to negotiate another reasonable contract, I'll keep him as the backup for another contract. If not, I can let him walk as GKs of his level are a dime a dozen. Chaoui and Letellier, though they aren't currently very good, have 4.5 and 4 star potential respectively. Chaoui is currently being paid more than I'd like for a prospect, but he just turned pro and I wanted to keep him on the team with that high potential He will improve enough during his contract to be in the right pay scale. Romain Cagnon is not very good now, is several years older than the other prospects, and has low potential. His contract expires next summer, so I'll try to sell/loan him this season.

2016-2017 Season Preview - Goalies (Last Season's Post Quoted for Comparison)

Benoit Costil is still the starter and his contract will be up at the end of the season. Fortunately, he's making less than he's worth according to the wage scale, so as long as his demands aren't outrageous I'll probably sign him again. He's probably peaked at this point, judging by the one point decline in his BTT rating from last season, but I'll still try for a 2 year contract on him if possible. Epassy is still the backup and I think I'll try to loan him out with a recall option this season so that he gets more playing time and get his balance off my books since I had to give him a raise last season. I also want to make way for Chaoui on the Reserve Squad so that he can get the full benefit of playing time, since he's close to being a serviceable senior team backup at this point, which would allow me to let Chaoui's contract expire in 2018. I'll have to renegotiate with Chaoui this season as well, but he's currently underpaid so that's okay. I have an awesome looking new youth goalie for the U19 in Abdelouahed, so I'll be looking to sell Letellier and Cesao.

Central Defenders Review:

This was perhaps the area of most flux from last season. Kana-Biyik forced his way out mid-season last year and I was forced to replace him with Molla Wague, who was previously the rotational option. I also brought in Abdoulaye and they both performed well. With Armand retiring, I signed Methieu Peybernes to replace him. Peybernes was a FIFA favorite of mine from a Sochaux dynasty/Utopia tourney, so I was excited to bring him in! Beyond that, I actually don't have another dedicated CB who is ready to play regularly at the ligue 1 level, so that is something I'll look to address in the transfer window to add a little more depth. It isn't absolutely necessary, as two other players (M'Bengue and Perriera) are "accomplished" as CBs, and have played well in a pinch there before, but I'd like to keep them available in their normal starting positions. Beyond the main 3 players, I've got one player (Hountondji) who is ready to play sparingly if needed in Ligue 1 and then a couple of 16 year old prospects who are basically rated the same as him (Gezaw and Perrin), but have better potential moving forward. Since Houtandji's contract expires in 2016 and he doesn't have a lot of potential, I'll be looking to sell/loan him. Overall, this is one of the deepest positions on the team when it comes to prospects," with 5 youth players with 4 star potential or better. That leaves an additional 5 players at the bottom of the list in the "not needed" category and I'll look to sell/loan them if they are on pro contracts. If they are on youth contracts, I'll keep them for now but just won't sign them to pro contracts.

2016-2017 Season Preview - Central Defenders (I went ahead and quoted last year's post so you could compare if you'd like)

At the start of the season at least, this cast of characters is basically the same as last year. Wague, de Vrij, and Abdoulaye will rotate starting duties with Peybernes filling in as needed. I had to renegotiate Abdoulaye's contract last season and now he's being slightly overpaid for his BTT rating (though it is very close). He also performed very well last season, so I'm pretty much okay with his current salary. That being said, I have had some interest for him on the transfer market, so I'm scouting for replacements that might be cheaper or better. Since he's currently being "overpaid" he's ripe for a sale!

You can definitely see why I moved to the BTT rating system for my wage scale instead of relying on ASS CORCH's opinion of current ability. The "Current ability" of several of the senior team players, including Peybernes and Abdoulaye both went down despite their BTT ratings at their positions going up (BTT rating last year was based on CB-D).

This season I plan on employing a cover/stopper pairing on my more attacking set, so I've included ratings for those positions as well. Several of my starting CBs also have good ratings as RBs, so I have some cover for that position as well.

Gezaw will join the senior squad this season, as he looks like he could provide versatility to play any of the CB roles and both of the defensive midfielder roles as well. That versatility should allow him to play quite a bit with the senior squad this season. I'm currently underpaying him and Gelin, based on their current ratings but I'll be renegotiating both of their contracts as well. Gelin will start on the reserve team, but I'll check out loan offers for him as long as I can guarantee him some Ligue 2 level starting experience.

Yilmaz, Milton, and Nau round out the rest of the prospects and I'll be keeping them for the reserves and youth squad. The rest of the "not needed" players will be loaned out or released, as I see fit. I want to avoid having them steal playing and training time from the prospects I care about.

*Yellow highlight on salary shows slight overpayment, green highlight shows underpayment, green on expiration date indicates intent to sign, red indicates intent to expire

Fullbacks Review:

The fullback position is pretty squared away at this point, with solid starters good young rotational players, enough depth to handle fixture congestion, and good youth prospects. The only possible catch is that both M'Bengue and Danze are in their contract renewal year. I'll probably try to re-sign both, as they've been solid starters for a couple of years... but I'll have to see what the price tag is. Either way, they are solid starting caliber players for this year. Soares was a good signing last season and played well in rotational duty and really started to push Danze for his starting spot near the end of the season. Wijnaldum2 is coming in on a free transfer to provide some more depth as a backup to M'Bengue and I've got high hopes for the 22 year old. I'll look to sell Lamine Gassama, mostly because his current ability already matches his potential ability and he only has a BTT rating of 12.3, making him barely functional at the ligue 1 level . Joffrey Durand just signed his first pro contract and he improved a ton in the last season, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him crack the Senior Squad in 2017. Alain Pascal and Daniel Guegan are good looking youth players who I'll likely sign to pro contracts. Abdoulay Samb doesn't look all that great and I saw him score an own goal in the U19 vs Candidates scrimmage last year, so he's on my shit list for that reason as well.

2016-2017 Season Preview - Fullbacks (I went ahead and quoted last year's post so you could compare if you'd like)

At left back we've got the ever solid starter M'Bengue who is probably maxed out at this point in his career (slightly higher than last season), but still a very solid player with 14+ BTT ratings and the versatility to play as a CB in a pinch. His backup/rotational player is Wijnaldum #2 who is coming off a solid season and saw some nice improvement in his ratings last season. On the Right side, Tony Danze retired so Sam Byram steps up as the starter, and fortunately his improvement was strong toward the end of last season and he's got a solid high 13 BTT rating, showing he should be fine as the starter. Behind him, I brought in a free transfer named Amon as a stop gap measure until the youths develop. Even though he's already maxed out on his potential and won't figure much in the future of this team, his salary is really low for a 13+ rated player so he was a perfect stop gap. I'll make sure to loan him out or sell him ASAP when the youths reach starting level, and that might be as soon as the winter transfer window, as I have another promising youth coming in January and he'll probably be good enough replace him in the senior squad rotation. If things get really shakey at RB there are several CBs and Tobias Strobl who can all fill in.

As for youths, I have the aforementioned January transfer RB and a good looking youth LB in prince Joffrey, as well as a couple other promising looking right backs. I won't be looking to loan anyone from this group, but I will be interested in selling either Guegan or Pascal if I get a good offer.

Central Midfielders review (CMs/DMs)

Depending on what formation I decide to use, I'll either have 2 CM/CDM players or 3 CM/CDM type players. As such, I'd like to have at least 3 regular starter type players and then 2 more rotational players, making sure all the proper roles I like players to play are covered as well (I usually pair a play-maker with a ball winner in 2 CM set and us a play-maker/ball winner/complete midfielder combination in a 3 CM set). I currently have 6 players who are capable of playing at the Ligue1 level, so I might be looking to sell one of them if I get a fair price.

I was surprised to see that Tobias, the never-nude, had the highest BTT rating on the team but only a current ability/potential ability of 2.5. It will be interesting to see if my ASS corch is right in his evaluation of Tobias, or if my views are correct. He only got to play in cup matches last season because Mr. Manager fucked up his signing, but he looks like the type of ball-winning midfielder Mr. Manager wants on this team. Vincent Pajot and Danilo Periera were regular starters last year, in the playmaking and complete midfielder roles, respectively, and their BTT ratings jive pretty well with how they performed. Axel Ngando has a surprisingly high BTT rating (he's typically been out on loan) but I'll have to give him a try in a rotational capacity in the playmaking role before I decide if I want to sign him again (contract expires in 2016). Anders Konradsen fills a similar role as Ngando, but costs more, is lower rated, and has lower potential so I'll be looking to sell him on. Abdoulaye Doucore doesn't have great potential, but he has the ability to play in either the complete midfielder role or the ball winning midfielder role, so he adds some versatility to the team. I'll probably keep him with the team this season for depth purposes, but I probably won't re-sign him because of his low potential. I definitely need to get rid of Chris Baird at all costs at this point, as he's making 25,00/week and isn't even a suitable backup. That was a lesson on signing old dudes to long contracts, as I wasn't able to sell him last season because he refused to move unless I paid his wages.

From a youth/young player perspective, Kevin Papin and Mohamed Talib both made big improvements and look to be the defensive oriented midfielders of the future, and Jakob Anderson also has very high potential, though his current stats are real bad as a 15 year old. The rest of the prospects probably are the type that I'll keep around while they are cheap and then try to sell them once they are worth a little more.

2016-2017 Season Preview - Central Midfielders (I went ahead and quoted last year's post so you could compare if you'd like)

Depending on my formation, I deploy either 2 or 3 CM/DMs in one of 4 roles (Anchor, Deep Lying Playmaker, Ball Winning Midfielder, Advanced Playmaker). Most of the DMs can play CM and vice versa, so the roles are far more important than the positions.

Last year I sold two of the best playmaker options on the squad at the beginning of the season, and then Pajot got injured as well and I really struggled to field a combination of midfielders that was able to move the ball around in my more possesion oriented attacking formation until I moved Propper back into the playmaking spot at times. To remedy that shortfall in playmakers (and the lack of them in my youths) I brought in Jorginho on a free transfer and signed him to a hefty wage because his all-around stats are even better than his BTT score indicates. I'm very slightly overpaying for him compared to his BTT score for the role I will be using him in, but he looks like a world class midfielder.

My main starters will be Jorginho, Perriera, and Pajot with Propper splitting time between the advanced playmaker role in the midfield and an attacking midfield role in the CAM spot, depending on formation. Strobl is a good option of the bench at the BWM/Anchor spot and also has great stats for RB as well. I get angry at him because he's a psycho who gets yellow cards constantly and is therefore rarely able to play up to his potential... but I think I'll just adapt to using him as a tactical substitute instead and just trust he can make it at least 20-45 minutes.

The youths in this group are an interesting bunch. Kevin Jaffre and Kevin Papin already look like a great combination ready for the senior squad in sub duty at the playmaking and ball winning spots, respectively. I've got several other youths who have great prospects to be defensive midfielders, but not many that seem suited for the playmaking roles. I'm currently overpaying two youths, so I'll try to sell them if I can. There is room here for me to sell multiple players with 3.5 or 4 star potential just because I have so many prospects in this bunch and can't afford to give them all playing time. Fortunately, 2 of the unwanted group will be on affordable expiring contracts and the rest are on $95/week, so I can just choose to not sign them to contracts when that time comes. In the mean time I'll probably try to loan out a bunch of them to keep the reserve/youth spots open for who I want playing.

Attacking Midfielders

With a maximum of 3 available starting slots for the attacking midfielders, and several players with the versatility to play multiple positions, I realized that I'm probably carrying too many players at this position (There are a couple other CMs/STs who also have CAM listed as a secondary spot). I picked up Wijnaldum1 on a free transfer, even though the position wasn't a "need" at the time, because it was just a great opportunity to pick up a great player... but I'm thinking that means I should dump one of the other guys, because there is only so much playing time to go around. The obvious choice is to dump Alessandrini, since there always seems to be interest in him, I've never been super pleased with his play, and he's going to be on an expiring contract.

Anyway, Wijnaldum1, Fortunis, and Ntep are your 3 starting players. Alessiandrini will hopefully be sold. Davy Propper, Sadio Diallo, Ousmane Dembele, and Zana Allee are all young players with high potential ratings and enough ability to contribute on a rotational basis right now. I might look into selling Sadio Diallo, but I'm not sure yet. Yves Ambasssa (@Yankee151) looks like the only youth prospect who is going to be worth a damn, so I'm hoping this year's class will provide some better looking players. There are a couple of young (La)mongs on the list I'll look to sell or loan.

2016-2017 Season Preview - Attacking Midfielders (I went ahead and quoted last year's post so you could compare if you'd like)

At the central attacking midfielder spot I could have also included Propper and Zaza, but I've got so many potential starting CAMs that I decided to put Propper and Zaza with the CMs and Strikers, respectively, for this discussion.

The interesting newcomer her is Rodrigo Gomez, who I found with my "Best Player Available" search through free transfers. I was able to pick him up for free* (paid a few hundred thousand to his agent-owner) and he looks awesome. He has 19 dribbling and 19 acceleration among other attributes that give him 14+ BTT ratings in a couple of spots. He can play either the CAM or RAM spot.

Ntep is technically by far the most over paid player on the team based on his BTT ratings, but he has 2 seasons of confirmed BTT level production as the team's highest goal scorer to justify that pay. Wijnaldum #1 and Kostas Fortunis round out the attacking midfielders with 14+ BTT ratings. This is easily the deepest position on the team, especially considering the fact that Zaza and Propper will also get some time in the CAM spot, depending on formation. Man City has really been strutting at me to buy Fortunis, and while that is a possibility based on the depth of this team, I'm really hesitant to sell last season's MVP. If they offer me like $25 Million I don't know if I'll be able to turn them down, especially since I wouldn't have to add anyone.
From the youths, we've got Donato Desier De Donno at the LAM spot coming up into the senior squad this season. At the RAM spot we've got Osmana Dembele, who has been improving a ton lately and now has a 14 BTT rating as winger. Ntep was lower rated at the start of his breakout season, so I'm really confident in getting Dembele some playing time this year.

@Yankee151 Ambassa and Maxime Pierron have made nice strides in the last season, but are both going to be in the reserve/U19 teams for one more year before making a jump to the senior squad. There are a couple of terrible looking youths who I will dump at the first opportunity!

Strikers Review

This is an interesting position, because I already have 3 players with the BTT ratings to contribute at a high level (Zaza,Kleber,Diarra) and another (Sane) who is good enough to be a rotational player, but I think I'm going to add another striker. Last year the lack of depth is primarily why I stuck with the single striker formation and I ended up having to play Diarra more than expected (though he did well) as both Kleber and Zaza spent significant time out due to injury. I also wasn't in love with the way Zaza produced in the Striker role, and thought he played better in a CAM spot. That all leaves me wanted to add another striker and also explore 2 striker formations where Zaza might perform better than he did in the single striker role. Really, I think I just want a super-star type player who I can always count on to score goals when he's provided good service, and I don't think I have that right now.

Kleber will be the main starter, as I thought he did well in a target man role when healthy last season. I also have Zaza penciled in as a starter, but I'm not sure whether he'll split time with Kleber or play in the CAM role. I expect Diarra to push for time like he did last season, especially if I go to a 2 striker formation. If I bring in another striker, I plan on selling Abdoulaye Sane (contract expires, and lower potential). I have several very good young players all under 20 years old, with very high potential, i (Donato de donno, Kevin Bercot, Wesley Said, Dadjiri Konate, Jean-Jaques Malval, Michale Bouvet, and Gwen Pichon). As the oldest of that bunch, and with a contract expiring this season, it might make a lot of sense to sell Wesley Said (plus his role doesn't really fit what I want). Then, as with all other positions, there are some other shit-heads who I'll have to find something to do with.

2016-2017 Season Preview - Strikers (I went ahead and quoted last year's post so you could compare if you'd like)

With only 1 striker spot, and the emergence of Cheick Diarra as a super sub last season, you can expect to see Simone Zaza playing a lot of CAM. Michy Batshuayi was the big transfer disappointment last season, doing very little to justify the amount spent on him when Diarra was more productive coming off the bench. Mr. Manager was forced to give Diarra an extremely large raise, but was definitely will to pay it because he produced well and is still within the budget range for his BTT rating. The 3 player rotation of Batshuayi (who will hopefully perform better this season) Zaza, and Diarra should be a sufficient enough of senior team starters for proper rotation and substitution. As such, we will look to sell Kleber.

The youth system is crowded with strikers, and there are a couple more listed as Attacking mids that can play ST as well. Djadiri Konate and Jean-Jacques "2 face" Malval are the only ones I'm truly interested in keeping. I'm going to transfer/loan list everyone else and let contracts expire as necessary.

Just beat Barcelona 2-0 in a scrimmage where I was trying out my new custom tactics. De Donno and Diarra have already combined for 4 goals in their 45 minutes of playing time together in friendly matches. I think I've made a good choice moving De Donno up to the senior squad.

Highlight of the sweet goal:

There have been some large shakeups during the transfer window as well. LAWD.

TRANSFER MADNESS!!

OUT!
As you can see, I hesitantly parted ways with Kostas Fortunis, the Greek. That should make @Yankee151 very happy. $27 Million dollars from Manchester City was ultimately just too much to turn down. Yankee seemed a little too happy to see the Greek departing, so I decided to entertain the PSG offer for him as well! After some back and forth, we settled on $7.75 million which is a pretty solid payment for a dude who was valued at about $1.5 million. I will continue to follow @Yankee151 's career in the future. I had no interest in selling Abdoulaye, but after rejecting an offer for him, he became enraged that I wouldn't let him talk to the other team. I know how that unhappy player shit works, so I cut my losses and sold him for a healthy 13.75 Million, knowing I had a couple of other options scouted.

In:

I had already won and signed Spajic to replace Abdoulaye and I was happy with that replacement. Made a little bit on the transfer fee, have to pay slightly higher wages, but Spajic's stats are better. Then I scouted this other dude named Veltman. It was a fire sale, so he was available for less than $4Million and on good wages too! Both of them are on proper salaries for their ratings.

16481362160_015ab4c409_o.jpg

16642850676_13642e115f_o.jpg

SUMMARY:
Transfer Money Received = $48.5 Million
Transfer Money Spent =$15.2 Million
Net = $33.3 Million (I ended up + about $25 Million after paying out bonuses and %s)

Wages out = $98.75 k/week
Wages in = $96 k/week
Net = 2.75 k /week

I was unable to sell Kleber, but loaned him out for the season at 100% wages with a transfer fee of $4 Million at the end of the season. Not as much as I'd hope for, but he was all salty about being on the team. The kicker was, after I loaned him he asked for a recall and to be taken off the transfer list. FUUUUUU. Motherfucker forced his way off the squad by being a pain in my ass and now he's all sad about it? Anyway, a lot less movement in the team this season so hopefully that helps squad cohesion. Spajic and Veltman both have very good starting stats. I didn't need two more starting quality CBs, but I should have nice rotation system now that will allow my to use De Vrij and Peybernes as RBs as well. Plus, next season I'll be able to sell a CB without worrying about replacing them.

Champions League Group Draw

Stade Rennais were drawn in pot 4 again (can someone explain this to me? I was drawn in Pot 4 last season despite winning Ligue1). That automatically means a tough group, but things honestly aren't as bad as they've been in previous years.

16461598017_35e6b2f730_b.jpg

Dortmund are currently the highest rated club in the world, and pulverized me every time I've played them. Juventus are obviously Juventus, but I think at least I've got a fighting chance there. I should be able to beat Dynamo Kyiv. I'm going to load my very best roster for the Champions League games this year in an attempt to get out of this group. If there is fixture congestion, the youngins are just going to have to tough it out in Ligue1.

Who are you going to replace the greek with

The starter is that super speedy dude named Rodrigo Gomez I picked up on a free transfer and he's played really well so far. Wijnaldum#1 and Ntep can also play RAM and Dembele is the younger player who I want to see more playing time. I have 2 dedicated senior RAMs and 4 players on the senior squad who can play there. Dembele is the only good looking youth RAM I have, so if I don't get some good looking new youths this spring I'll have to go buy another prospect. Didn't want to sell both Fortunis and Ambassa, but got +3x value for both. Hard to say no to that!

The $27 million was a SR transfer record, and I bought him initially for $3 Million. The Greek wheel of Fortuna gave me two amazing seasons and a lot of money. What a contribution.

Champions League Group Match - Juventus (A) - Win 3-1 PANTS OFF

I'm still one ligue1 game away from my first quarter update, but I was too excited about this win so I figured I needed to include a post just for it. Went with the counter attacking strategy and it worked out pretty well for us for the first time in a while! That was my primary strategy in the first season when I was regularly an underdog, but it didn't work as well last year. I was really just hoping to steal a draw from Juventus on the road, but I managed to come away with a victory. STRUT STRUT STRUT.

That early goal is so key in counter attacking, because you can just sit back and know they have to press for a goal. You can see the possession and shot disparity shows we were really holding on by a thread through most of the game. Mr. Manager and Stade Rennais have been on the other end of this sort of thing and it is so frustrating to just dominate and not be able to find goals.

2016-2017 Season 1/4 Review

As you can see below, we had a pretty solid pre-season, beating Hanover 4-1 and Barcelona 2-0, both on the road and then hammering some crappy teams. Dropped the friendly against Bayern and then suffered a disappointing blowout loss to PSG in the Champions Trophy match. Still, the preseason was very useful in getting the squad cohesion and tactics pulled together in hopes of hitting the ground running in Ligue1. I think having less squad turnover certainly helped compared to last season's rough start.

Ligue 1 performance was... strange. On the plus side, SR and Mr. Manager are still undefeated in Ligue 1 play, despite having a pretty tough early schedule with road matches against Lille, Lyon, and a home game against Marseille. The downside is they couldn't seem to find that winning edge and ended up with 6 draws from the first 10 ligue 1 games. The draws against Lille and Lyon probably should have both been losses, but we managed to limp passed lille because they couldn't finish despite vastly out shooting us, and rescuing the Lyon game with a late equalizer. On the flip side, we couldn't manage to hold leads against several weaker opponents. This included a draw to Havre, who were really struggling and a heartbreaking home draw against Nice on a late equalizer. Fortunately, we seemed to find a bit of spark and finished out with 2 ligue 1 wins. The game against Lorient looked like another case where we just couldn't quite get the win when they equalized on a slop goal and made it 1-1. Mr. Manager brought on Wijnaldum#1 as a late sub and he managed to save the win with a hero goal in the 85 minute. We've also been unlucky with the zebras so far @Reel. We've had 3 penalties given against us and 0 for us in ligue 1 play.

In the Champions league, things really couldn't be going better. Two games played, two solid wins, and a +4 Goal difference. I figured we'd get the home win against Kyiv, as that should have been the easiest match in all of group play, but I definitely couldn't have expected a 2 goal win in an away game against Juventus. That could really make the difference we need to advance for the first time.

Ligue 1 Record - 4 wins, 6 draws, 0 losses
Chamions League Record - 2 wins
French Champions Cup - 1 Loss
Overall 1st Quarter Record - 6 wins, 6 draws, 1 loss

16674514745_66e8452590_b.jpg

Ligue 1 standings:
SR is in a familiar 4th place spot that they spent most of last season in. They are the only undefeated team in ligue 1, but those 6 draws also drop a lot of points. Especially frustrating is the fact that two of the draws came against teams at the very bottom of the table. The good news is that SR are only 2 points off from the league leaders PSG and have a very solid +8 GD. It is hard to really expect a better quarter than we just had, but hopefully even if we have some losses in the next quarter we'll pick up more points by not drawing against teams we should beat.

16673143041_db4cf24015_o.jpg

Players I'm pleased with:
Cheick Diarra - Picked up right where he left off at the end of last season. 7 starts and 8 goals, including a key goal against Juventus.

Paul-Georges Ntep - Played in 7 games before being injured for the past 3 weeks. He scored 3 goals, had 2 assists, was player of the match twice, and currently leads Ligue 1 with the highest average match rating.

Danilo Pereira - Had a solid first quarter capped by a tremendous 2 goal performance against Juventus and he also has an 82% pass completion rate. Defensively he's also dominated with 8 key headers and 3.86 tackles/game

Uros Spajic - slid right in to Abdoulaye's spot and had a great first quarter of the season with a very nice 7.1 average match rating, a goal, and 16 key defensive headers

Cheick M'Bengue - The usual defensive stalwart on the team, averages an incredible 8.67 tackles per game and leads the team in key tackles with 9. Also picked up a couple of assists.

Kevin Papin - Had the best first quarter of the youngins, despite missing the whole preseason and early first quarter on international duty and with a slight injury. Hasn't started a game yet and has only played as a substitute, but I've really appreciated his 87% pass rate and very low number of mistakes as well as the goal and assist he picked up. He should be a nice defensive playmaker in the future.

Propper - I feel like I'm praising half the team, but Propper was also great with 2 goals and 2 assists in 7 starts and he leads the team in key passes with 9. The team definitely feels far less capable on the offensive end when he isn't on the field

Players I'm disappointed with:
Batshuayi - 6 starts and only 1 goal and 1 assist. His lack of scoring directly contributed to so many of the draws against lesser opponents. I feel like he gets as many chances to score as Diarra and only finishes a fraction of them.

Joel Veltman - Played poorly in his first 4 starts before getting injured

Benoit Costil - Has just looked sloppy at times and has spilled too many balls and fumbled around leading to several more goals that shouldn't have been.

Joseph Gezaw - I've put him on as a late substitute in several games when I had really tired CBs and he was at fault for a couple goals that tied games up and was also at fault for Juventus' one goal. His marking on corners is horrible.

Ligue 1 standings:
SR is in a familiar 4th place spot that they spent most of last season in. They are the only undefeated team in ligue 1, but those 6 draws also drop a lot of points. Especially frustrating is the fact that two of the draws came against teams at the very bottom of the table. The good news is that SR are only 2 points off from the league leaders PSG and have a very solid +8 GD. It is hard to really expect a better quarter than we just had, but hopefully even if we have some losses in the next quarter we'll pick up more points by not drawing against teams we should beat.

2016-2017 Season 1/2 Review

SR and Mr. Manager had an up and down 2nd quarter. On the downside, they lost 5 games. On the upside, they won a Champions league game against Dynamo Kyiv to take them to 9 points and secure second place in the group, despite losing twice to Dortmund and once to Juventus. That means SR will be advancing to the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in Mr. Manager's reign of terror! The team had a lot of very close games against top competition. They barely lost to Dortmund away and utterly dominated PSG in an away match in Ligue 1, only to see their hopes dashed with a late PSG goal and some amazing saves by a backup goal. The Coupe de La Ligue cup loss to PSG was the most heartbreaking of all, as SR had leads for two very long stretches of the game and had all the best chances in extra time before letting in a sloppy goal on a corner scrum. Really frustrating to lose so early in a cup competition, as it really takes away from playing opportunities for younger players. Drawing PSG that early, WTF? So they were eliminated in one competition and advanced mostly on the strength of their first quarter performance in the Champions league, despite losing 3/4 games this quarter.

In Ligue 1 play, it was dissapointing to draw against Nancy boys and lose against PSG in a game they dominated. A tie against Monaco was like sister kissing, but otherwise the beat most of the teams they were supposed to beat and had three nice away wins in games they had been dropping points on in the first quarter. The highlight of the quarter was probably a 3-1 win away against Toulouse in which Toulouse actually scored the first goal, only to have SR come storming back. SR similarly came from behind on the road against AC Ajaccio. Those wins should be key down the stretch!

Ligue 1: 6 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss
Champions League : 1 win, 3 losses
Coupe de la Ligue: 1 loss
Overall 2nd Quarter: 7 wins, 2 draws, 5 losses

16684730062_60c92fe677_b.jpg

Ligue 1 Table:
Once again, SR find themselves in 4th place but only 3 points back of the leaders, with a game in hand on 2nd place, and tied on points with 3rd place (only 1 GD behind). There is a clearly elite group of teams this year at the top of Ligue1, so competition should be stiffer in the title race than last year when PSG had basically run away with it at this point. Should be fun!

Players I'm pleased with:
Cheick Diarra - Already matched his goal total from last season with 15 in all competitions. He scored 7 goals this quarter compared to 8 last, but was more consistent this quarter and also added 3 assists. He is by far the team's first choice striker

Davy Propper - Added another 3 goals and 3 assists and still leads the team in key passes, with double that of the closest competitor. He's really the driving force behind the offense at the moment. He's the best playmaker I've had since the FERRET was pulling strings at SR.

Rodrigo Gomez - Has become the teams best wing/cross threat and has really combined well with Diarra on fast breaks. Added 2 goals and 5 assists in the last quarter. I was really worried about replacing Fortunis' production but Gomez has at least showed he has the potential to be that answer. Was the best of the new arrivals this quarter.

Ousmane Dembele - Added 2 goals and an assist in spot duty, with both of the goals being key to securing victories that otherwise would have ended in draws. He's not had much action because Gomez has been playing so very well, but he's been good in limited duty and I'm excited for the future!

Molla Wague - The team's defensive stalwart in the middle. 16 key tackles and 62 key headers in 17 starts says it all. With my more attacking formation he's particularly thriving in the stopper role, winning the ball back for us early before the other team can build an attack.

Players I'm disappointed with:
Joel Veltman - 4 more starts and still looks like the worst defender on the team despite having the best stats. I'm thinking the language issue is causing us problems

Jorginho - So this one is funny because he was actually playing very well this quarter. The downside is that he changed his country to Brazillian and he received 5 fucking caps from them in qualification matches, which activiated this absurd clause in his contract making him the highest played player on my team... then promptly got hurt in practice the next day with a broken leg or some shit and now will miss most of the rest of the season. In case you are keeping score at home, he now takes up my valuable 3rd foreign player spot (usually used to get cheaper wage quality players), is my most highly paid player, and will miss most of the season. FUUUUUUUUU

Gerard Amon - Is horrible, thankfully I won't need him for long. I've switched to playing Peybernes when I need another RB. Gonna try to sell or loan him out during the transfer window!

WINTER TRANSFER MADNESS:

It was a very active transfer window for Mr. Manager and Stade Rennais. We were initially just looking to dump one of our extra CBs on the inflated winter transfer market. If you recall from the preseason, I actually ended up with an extra quality CB but didn't want to sell De Vrij or Wague until I was sure at least one of the new guys would work out as a starter, having learned my lesson about squad turnover. With a solid CB crew in place and looking for more playing time for the youngest Gezaw, I was ready to sell when I got a solid offer for De Vrij from Roma. Then we got a couple of nice offers for Batshuayi... I have not been impressed with him this season, even though he played slightly better of late. Still, in 14 appearances he'd only scored 3 goals for the team and that isn't good enough and it has really cost the team! Since the young Konate hasn't really impressed in his sub role, the one downside is that I'd need a replacement striker from the inflated winter market (ie I'd have to overpay). Fortunately, since Mr. Manager has been a frugal bastard for 2 seasons, there is quite the ample war chest at Stade Rennais. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to snag a player that Mr. Manager has always coveted, the PHYSICAL FREAK OF NATURE ABOUBAKAR!! He's got a proven track record of scoring goals in Ligue 1 (in the top 3 goal scorers for 3 seasons running) and he's one of the most impressive physical strikers in the game with room for development on his technical stats as he ages. Plus, he always kills SR when we play them. I knew it would take a lot of money to sign him away from Lorient, but I'd just sold Batshuayi and De Vrij for a combined $26.75 Million and had +$60 Million left over in the transfer budget as well as $200k/week in the wage budget... We could make this happen!

So that's how I ended up paying a Stade Rennais record $31 Million transfer fee for Vincent Aboubakar!

Also had the arrival of that 4.5 star youth RB prospect I purchased this summer, so I loaned out Amon who was just a depth player I signed on a free transfer and low wages.

Out -
Michy Batshuayi - $15 Million and $52,000/week
Stefan de Vrij - $11.75 Million and $36,500/week
Amon - Loaned out until end of season since his replacement has arrived (12,500/week temporarily off books)

(forgot to take pics of these, so I captured the transfer summary table)

In -
Gonzalo Mendez - $3.5 million and $22k/week (mentioned him in the off season thread, but he officially arrived!)
Vincent Aboubakar - $31 million and $99k/week (LAAAAAWWWD)

Net -
$7.75 Million Spent on transfers
$32.5k/week increase in weekly wages (temporarily $20k/week increase due to Amon Loan)

WELCOME MENDEZ

Pretty solid skillset for an 18 year old. He's definitely a defensive minded fullback, which is what I was looking for since my starter Byram is very much a forward looking player. It is nice to have both types of fullbacks so you can adjust tactics without them looking like a fish out of water.
16077230753_f202c2f1fc_b.jpg

WELCOME ABOUBAKAR

He can basically do it all as a complete forward and his physical stats are world class. 17 pace, 16 strength, 16 acceleration, 16 agility. LAAAWD. His mental stats are also solid for a younger player. His technical stats aren't great now, but he's only 24 and I've noticed they increase as players age (as physicals drop). My scout says he has 4 star potential too (scout much better potential judge than ASSCORCH), so he has room to grow into hisself still.

I also attached his stats so far this season. As you can see, he's been very prolific so far this season with 10 goals and 6 assists in 19 appearances in Ligue 1. In all competitions he has 18 goals and 8 assists in 31 appearances and an average rating of 7.26. He played in a 2 striker formation for Lorient as well, making his stats more impressive.

The best part about signing him is not having to play against him anymore. He's scored 6 goals against me and I believe he's only started against me like 4 or 5 times.

Just played the first Champions League knockout match of Mr. Manager's career and it was probably the most entertaining game of FM I've ever watched. Tune in tomorrow morning now for video!

This was an... interesting dilemma of a game. Absolutely hate having to play the home leg first as the underdog because there is so much pressure to get a result (@Brick) otherwise the second game doesn't matter. The extra tough part is that almost half of my best players were either still traveling back from AFCON games or still recovering from them. That honestly influenced my tactical decision as well and I decided to be more negative than I otherwise would have. Basically I just wanted to ensure that the second leg (when I'd have my best players at least) would matter. Home/Away hasn't really mattered as much as usual for me this season, especially in the Champions League.

Anyway, best game I've watched this season!

So @DeadMan @Yankee151 @everyone else @TrojanMan

What should my strategy be for the away leg against Chelsea? How can Mr. Manager coach efficiently against his favorite team?

@Reel, can you cut me some slack on the penalties so I can rough up Chelsea at least?

Pray. You got dominated and got lucky to tie 2-2 at home. They're going to blow your doors off away from home.

Your best bet is to park the bus and hope for a 1-0 win on a set piece. You could maybe try a 4-5-1 formation and try to get a counter attack goal. But I wouldn't be super hopeful.

This is the type of response I predicted from @deadmong. Such conventional wisdom and so blatantly WRONG. You'd play right into their hands, as low scoring games favor Chelsea.

Fortunately Mr. manager does not capitulate to traditional soccer wisdom and views the 2-2 draw at home followed by an away match against a superior opponent as actually prime territory for an upset. Obviously I'm still the underdog, but it is actually a relatively favorable scenario to me because it allows me to play balls to the wall from the opening whistle! From a game theory perspective Chelsea know that they should be pushing for a low scoring game in general due to already having 2 away goals in the bag, thus the vast majority of common low scoring outcomes favor them. They are going to want to limit my chances at getting some stupid goal on a breakaway and then being able to bunker and winning outright. In effect, Chelsea are forced to "choose first" how the game will be played and that's a huge advantage to me.

Since I already know what I need to do (win) and I know that Chelsea should play conservatively (to not lose), I'm free to play more aggressive and attacking soccer (like a typical home team). Chelsea aren't really suited to playing as the defending/negative team and I think that really makes a difference. I don't care if I lose huge, because a 5-0 loss is the same result as a 0-0 draw to me. High scoring games favor me! (because that's where draws of 3-3 or greater flip back into my favor). I even HOPE Chelsea comes out in typical aggressive fashion because it will mean I'll have early scoring opportunities in a wide open fast break style game (especially with my pacey players up front).

Then the best part is if I somehow manage to get the first goal, then I can adopt your plan from a position of strength and lock it down to 100% bunker mode.

So here is the gameplan: Have a couple a drinks and then load the players up with an inspired pregame speech (and maybe some amphetamines) and then go out there and prove why Mr. Manager is a God among men and Deadmong is just a mere mortal!

DeadMan

Nah, b. The problem is that, frankly, your players suck. They're good for the French league, sure, but they're not even close to good enough to challenge the elite like Chelsea. That striker you signed is a nice player and all, but he wouldn't make the bench for either of my FM 12 teams that won Champions League titles.

And it happens frequently in this game that there is an underdog who gets a good result in the home leg and then gets crushed in the away leg. It happened to me a bunch of times, except I was in the Chelsea role

To be fair, your approach sounds like a lot more fun than mine. But I would be pretty shocked if you any approach worked. Your players suck in comparison's to Chelsea, and I don't think you can overcome that twice.

Yeah, I was mostly just fucking with you. I'd bet I've honestly got about a 10-15% chance of winning either way, but I like the "mathematical" explanation of why higher scoring games should favor me since Chelsea already has 2 away goals.

I have noticed that the away/home dynamic has been off for me this season for some strange reason. I beat Juventus on the road and then got shutout by them at home. Barely lost to Dortmund and PSG on the road and got destroyed by them at home, etc. Maybe this is just the perfect bizzaro world year where I come out and get a lucky early goal!

So how many times should I reload this game to prove deadmong wrong

DeadMan

I was thinking you should do one game with your approach, and one game with my approach. You'll lose both, so it won't matter which one you play through, but we can see that way who had the better approach

How about this: I'll play my approach first (the only one I will count). Save and reload and use your approach but I am not allowed to use that result, even if you win. Lawd that would hurt to not be able to save a win.

DeadMan

I really don't care that much. You don't need to waste 20 minutes or whatever it is to play through a game to prove me wrong

I'm actually curious, so I will, though I don't think either outcome would be remotely definitive, as there is so much random stuff that goes into the match sims anyway. I mean I KNOW how the outcome is going to be. I'm going to get crushed with my method and win with yours, because that's how being cocky about it works. I'm still 3 games away doe.
