Quite the hot take on a team that hasn’t lostWNT continue to play same, old players. It's either on Ellis or the marketing team. Sauerbrunn is BAD.
This is basically the Euros now with the United States as invited guests.
Speaking of long balls, what is with this? Long balls seem to be a staple of pretty much every team in this tournament except the teams that physically cannot even play it long (Thailand), other than Spain, but nobody seems particularly any good at it. There was one scored in the Italy/Brazil game but it seemed more like fuckshit than 2011 Alex Song to Van Persie stuff. 99% of the passes are horribly overhit or underhit, and the players being asked to chase them down aren't especially speedy (in comparison to the other players - not men).
It's bigger than the tournament. They've been playing the same players for four years. Part of that is on the NT full-time contracts so you can't really try out new players. It's a bit of a HOT TAKE because the only player that is possibly kept on the team because of marketing is Rapinoe. Sauerbrunn is also old, but there's no way she's on the team because of marketing. Rapinoe hasn't looked great all tournament, to be fair. Sauerbrunn has been fine. Yeah, she had a bad mistake against Spain, but that was also on Naeher. And she's been pretty much faultless besides that.
Morgan was bad yesterday, too, but I think she's still hurt. She wasn't making effective runs in behind, nor was she getting on the ends of crosses. The way we played yesterday didn't really help. We weren't trying to build up play in the center at all, so Morgan wasn't getting any touches.
I think it would be better to sub Rapinoe off earlier in each game and get fresher legs to run at people. I'm fine with her starting if that's what happens.
Brutal for the Japans.
Such a likeable team.
NED does have some baddies tho

We will see what happens against France but the team just looks like they're getting old and the rest of the world is getting leaps and bounds better.
