The weekly Ligue 1 round up: http://everydayiszlatanday.com/2014/08/24/ligue-1-week-3/
  • While we are only three weeks into the season, the team in first place in Ligue 1 is not PSG or Monaco. It’s FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Bordeaux has nine points in three games after beating Nice 3-1. Bordeaux overcame going down to grab the win. Cheick Diabaté had an eventful day, scoring a goal and being sent off after two yellows.
  • PSG’s less than impressive start to the season has continued, drawing 0-0 with Evian. This is the same Evian that had allowed nine goals in two games. PSG had an amazing 76% possession with 786 passes to Evian’s 243 but could only muster three shots on target.
  • Lille’s pristine defensive record continued their third clean sheet in as many games in a 2-0 over Lorient. Lille’s rock solid defense allowed only one shot on goal. Simon Kjaer got a goal in addition to being pivotal in Lille’s clean sheet at center back.
  • It took them longer than they would’ve wanted or expected, but Monaco has won a game. In Falcao’s first start of the season, Monaco earned a road win over Nantes, 1-0. Nantes had a chance to go up 1-0 from the spot but Serge Gakpe’s penalty was saved. Falcao made the most of his first start since his injury, scoring Monaco’s only goal in the game.
  • A pair of new managers got their first wins of the season, as Claude Makelele’s Bastia and Marcelo Bielsa’s Marseille both won. Bastia beat Toulouse 1-0 while Marseille beat Guingamp with the same scoreline.

APOEL and Porto are basically through.

Celtic have to chase, not a good look for them.

BATE look through as well. Wonder if Celtic and Legia can get drawn in the same EL group?

Porto's win means they go into Pot 1 while Dortmund go into Pot 2.

Barcelona sign Douglas from Sao Paulo. So for 24M, Barcelona could've had Benatia, but instead they get Mathieu and Douglas. Maybe the latter will work out, but yeesh. Guessing no Cuadrado either, though in theory this doesn't rule him out since he's so flexible.

The Scottish League is shit and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

I don't hear APOEL complaining about this and they made the Quarterfinals two years ago.

Also, I would rather have Cuadrado than Benatia. Couldn't offload Dani Alves to Paris though.

France will need a deep run from Paris to save their spot. Lyon and Saint-Etienne are in trouble in EL qualifying and I don't think Monaco has a chance in the UCL.

LOL Salzburg. Gave up a late away goal in the first leg and now down 2-0 in Malmo. They always find new and interesting ways to get knocked out in UCL qualifying.

Speaking of Shakthar, what's going on with the players who didn't want to play for them anymore? Was this resolved?

Ludogorez's keeper just got a straight red. No subs left so a player is putting on the gloves. Love when this happens.

Punched out a corner kick to send it to penalties

He stepped up and scored the first pk, eventually saved one and then won the game by catching the last one (far into sudden death) and ran to the stands.

Those were some solid pks by both teams. He guessed right almost every time but was pretty far off his line, especially on the last one. The ref probably didn't wanna get killed by overturning it.
