Georgia and Oklahoma in Pasadena? Goddamn, this is some grapes of wrath shit.

Who let these hayseeds in here? Pasadena's old money is probably hating this new CFB reality. Can't wait for the Rose Bowl commemorative flour sack dresses

Serious question. If college football is about getting the 4 best teams in the playoff, what is the point of conferences at all? Conference championships don't really mean anything. In this system, you can be crowned conference champion, but the committee can just decide another team from your conference is better anyway. There doesen't seem to be any real competitive reason to have conferences at all. Only financial ones.

I think all the bowl matchups are finalized. Holy shit are they bad. There may be two decent bowl games in the entire lot.

We can't find one team (outside of UCF) that deserves a shot at the National Championship, so I'm thrilled that we selected 4. Can't wait until we get even more undeserving teams included!

whitey scurred Klimpson gonna win again

In the 81 years since the AP poll has existed, how many national champions have lost to a team that went on to lose at least 7 games in a season?

None.

Awesome system, fellas. Keep up the great work!

Me: Hey, all of the teams have major flaws that would disqualify them from being a title contender in most CFB seasons. How can we say that the regular season isn't diminished?
Playoff Mong: Well, what do you suggest, dummy?
Me: How about if we go to a system where we reduce the number of undeserving teams?

Teams that have finished their pre-bowl schedules undefeated this decade:

2016: Alabama
2015: Clemson
2014: Florida State
2013: Florida State
2012: Notre Dame
2011: LSU

That barely fills two playoff brackets. Good thing they are keeping those pesky mid-majors out of the playoffs because it looks so easy for them to go undefeated any given year!

So what there are 120 FBS teams on average participating in any of those seasons or something. So approximately *.008%* of teams have finished their schedules undefeated.
Congrats to UCF for doing something no mid-major has done this decade (lol schedule soooo easy) and not getting rewarded for it! The fact that they are the only undefeated team out of 130 and have been left out is a complete joke.

The NFL should not put any teams in the playoffs with more than 1 loss.

Isn’t this season the most obvious example of why the playoffs are good? No one (or two) obvious team(s) above the rest so let’s have four at least have to win their way to a shampship

I’d much rather have someone have to beat two of these teams to get a title rather than someone arbitrarily being given it and Bammer and UCF claiming it as well

The best college teams play 3-5 games max a year against competitive opponents. The largest single point game spread in any given NFL weekend is still usually less than 10 points. A playoff makes a lot more sense in NASHNUL. Although of course their setup is terrible.

If anything, doesn’t that make more sense to get rid of the playoffs for the NFL? If everyone can beat everyone, then they should make the regular season matter more, not less.

Mong: The BCS was perfect in all its selections
Also Mong: THE PLAYOFF LETS IN TEAMS WITH LOSSES REEEEEEEEE

Who in the world thinks the BCS was perfect in all of its' selections? It was far from infallible, as evidenced by the debacle of the 2011 season. The point is that, with the BCS, you never had to worry about more than 2 undeserving teams getting a shot at the shampship. Every other system has a number higher than that. Therefore, no other system placed the importance on the regular season that the BCS did.

Now, you can lose to 4-8 teams, lose by a billion points, or lose to your rival by double digits in the last game of the regular season and still be in contention for the shampship. IMO, that's awful, and it's an awful thing for how awesome the regular season in CFB is.

Allbarn is the team that really got jerbed by this whole thing. Oh you beat 2 number 1 teams in back to back weeks? Sorry, you gotta play one of them again.

Absolutely.

The Iron Bowl and The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry were meaningless this season. Thanks, playoff guys!
