Madden Oh Look The Same Damn Game Again 15

i've told my old xbl friends for years that if gameplay is what you care about, then Madden isnt what you should be playing. They are more interested in the virtual representation of "insert favorite player" vs if that virtual representation of them plays like their real life counterpart. I've told them basically you are just playing with player skins b/c there is no real distinction between manning vs. sanchez other than what those booty placebo ratings that EA gives them. They both move the same and act the same (pre introduction of the pre snap cadence lulz), but for the most part, you may as well be playing with the faceless dummies they use in coding the game.

i would love to see a graphic of which plays of each team everybody runs. Im pretty confident most people only use about 25% of the entire playbook.

mother of God. With every video they release, the game just gets shittier and shittier. The only thing I saw in that video about improved coverages was a guy throwing to covered WR's. No breaking, nothing astronomical from the DB's...just a guy choosing the wrong WR. If you watch, there are multiple other WR's in each play that are wide open.

The wide nine technique is frequently utilized by the Lions whenever they need to give up 260 yards rushing in a game.
Oh man did I ever love coaching against the wide 9 technique. Obviously in the NFL, DEs can be multifunctional players who can both control that edge AND recognize and squeeze against an off tackle "power" run... but there are zero middle school DEs with the intelligence to do this, so the hole on power was literally 5 yards wide.

@smeth
LSU actually used to run one of my favorite plays at the CFB level for dealing with wide DEs as well. It was what I called the "Tunnel Toss." Basically an off tackle power with the TE kicking out on the DE instead of the FB, freeing the FB to pull through the hole with the guard. It sounds really simple, but it really works because of the fact that the QB tosses the ball to the RB. If you run the exact same play with a normal handoff action, the DE recognizes it and instantly squeezes. You toss the ball instead (with the RB taking the exact same path to the hole) and suddenly the DE takes himself out of the play trying to set the edge against what they think is an outside zone blocking scheme (I'd tell the TE to make a half-assed attempt to "reach" block the DE to further sell the DE's read). At some point, people stopped recognizing the fact that you can toss the ball for off-tackle/interior runs too, the toss doesn't necessarily mean it is an outside sweep/outside zone type play. It illustrates how a subtle difference (tossing the ball to the RB instead of handing it to him) can make a huge difference in what the play "looks" like to the defense.

The same concept works well with Jet motion running plays as well. Everyone sees that jet motion and they start shitting their pants about the outside zone threat of it... but if you run it at a wide 9 like that and pretend like you are trying to reach block him, he'll literally take himself out of the play and it leaves a gigantic hole.

Don't know what was said on that video because I refuse to watch it, but IRL if you're going to stop the run while playing the "Wide 9" Over front you basically need to heavily utilize Quarters (Cover 4) coverage and involve your safeties in the run fit. That's how the Titans did it a decade ago and it's what Schwartz did with the Lions.

For the most part, it works: Detroit's defense usually suffered way more against the pass (save for that crazy snow game where the Eagles ran them over). Problem is it's really hard to play pass effectively in the big leagues if your safeties are in constant run/pass conflict, having to worry about playing both A/B Gap in the run game as well as handling any vertical slot/TE. You saw it with the Lions as I'm guessing they annually ranked 25th or worse in pass defense, and it was a similar story for the Titans when Washburn and Fisher were there. The Eagles a couple years ago tried to play more man coverage from that alignment, but it was an absolute disaster.

BTW, defensive coordinators that still cling to the notion that "u must stop da run at all costz" are the highest form of troggery in the coaching profession today. It's a passing league now and points come from the passing game: who gives a shit about giving up yards on the ground if I can stop you in the red zone (where it's easier for me to defend against that) and force turnovers?

@Travis7401

You should see defensive linemen on Trap after getting hit with Sweep a few times. Or DE's jumping outside to stop Down, only to see Power run right underneath them:D Hilarious stuff.

Watch the video lol. Then comment. It's not an official video from EA but someone explaining the differences between this year's and last year's version how that scheme is depicted

Love dat LSU play

They run it with big backs like Spencer Ware and Hilliard too

(not exactly the sweep running type backs)

Spencer Ware was one of my favorite RBs there for a while. I always liked the power RBs, that's how I became a steelers fan.

who doesn't love a large opaque footbaw player with a skinny IT nerd name like Spencer?

Can't believe he didn't ever get a hood nickname like Booger McFarland or KeKe Mingo

EA Sports released a plethora fresh new details of connected franchise today, with big changes coming to the mode and how it will work this year. You can check out the full details here.

Here are some highlights:
 • Confidence is new this year, and replaces hot and cold streaks. Really high or really low confidence is going to affect player ratings, all players start at a neutral 50 confidence level.
 • Game prep will allow you to earn XP or increase player confidence from week to week, allowing you to practically choose whether you are a rah-rah coach or a down to business type of coach.
 • CPU teams have extensive logic that determines what they work on every week. Bad teams will focus mostly on developing their players, while contenders will focus on confidence first and then earn XP if confidence isn’t an issue.
 • Free agents now take much more than money into account when deciding to sign with you or not. Playing time, scheme, your coaching prestige and more will be factors. (this was in the game 10 years ago... never realized they took it out.)
 • Draft classes are now random.
 • Owner Mode is now much more challenging when it comes to making a profit, and teams with older stadiums in smaller markets may be better off building new stadiums or relocating altogether.
 • You can now sim to points in the season, with an option to actually sim 10 years into the future.
 • New screen to see how players progress/regress.
 • Relocations are tuned way down and can be turned off.
 • You can now fire your head coach during the season.
 • The simulation engine now includes things like consistency, confidence and development. In Madden 15, young players with great development traits will have slightly better “simmed” stats than normal. This allows great young players to progress quickly and become stars in the league. (wth?)

Madden NFL 15: Three Things To Be Excited About

Madden NFL 15 is coming in a few weeks, and at this point we've really begun to learn what this year's title is bringing to the table. Here are three things we are excited about with this year's game, be sure to add your own in the comments!

James Kerti: I feel most intrigued about the passing inaccuracy. For many years, it felt like every pass you threw was either completed, deflected, or intercepted. But in the NFL, there are so many passes every game, even by the most accurate quarterbacks, that are simply inaccurate. Madden never reflected it. Granted, I'm skeptical of how well it will be implemented in Madden NFL 15, but it's a welcome attempted change to the game.

Ben Vollmer: While I generally agree with James in that the passing inaccuracy feature could go a long way in fixing Madden, I'd have to say that I'm more intrigued by the upgrades they have made on the defensive side of the ball. For one, I think it was imperative that they make defense fun. We can go back and forth on realism, and how important that is to the overall quality of a sports game (and for me, it's extremely important), but on the game's most basic level, defense needed to be fun to play. My ultimate hope here is that the defense, combined with the passing inaccuracy feature, leads to a game of cat and mouse on both sides of the ball. I'm tentatively optimistic that that will be the case with Madden 15.

Chris Sanner: The gameplay feature I am most intrigued about at this point that isn't either of the above two is the improved A.I., specifically the enhanced coverages. Passing in Madden has always seemed to be a wide open affair, yet in real life throwing in the NFL is about hitting small targets in small time windows. Obviously this has to be balanced out so you don't tick off the 90% of users who just want to sling the football around and feel like Manning without knowing what he knows, but I'd like to think that the passing game enhancements will mean the throwing windows will be tighter this year.

Why is our team so shitty

Powell was the number 1 overall recruit in the whole nation (at any position) and he is a 62

looks like the lizards did this

I think EA Sports realized how much more money they can make by not releasing a demo finally. What if that shithole NBA Elite 11 didn't have a demo? Guess how many people would have an overly broken game with players standing like jesus at midcourt the whole game? $$$$$

Last year I got some good mileage out of the lizard math edition- Sunday ticket and the game for $100, sold the game for $40. Any idea if that's coming back?

Would be be down for a few electric kook aid madden tests in the 72 hours I own the game if so...

That was the best example of making lizard math work I've ever seen. Even as a Madden hater, I was like:

EA is ALMOST, but still not quite, got that Pee wee football level defensive concept down. Oh wow.

I don't think EA will ever be able to get real run fits into the game based on defensive and offensive formations, because it is too complicated for them. At best, formations are designed to look right, and then after the ball is snapped defenders still just "run to da footbaw" because the AI knows what play it is. The 1-gap vs 2-gap distinction isn't even important, imo, because NONE of the players have realistic run fits.

It still looks almost nothing like real football, lmao. Why do they still run straight up into tacklers?

I know most of you if not all of you haven't seen the video where some dude at EA calls out 2k and challenges them to buy the license and try and make a better game than madden (this is what sparked my hip hop gamer post on the things that piss you off thread)

But at face value, you could probably say he was having an WWE moment and was just playing things up for an interview, or you could think that he is a bigger mong than the ones who still camp out and buy this pos every year. Either way you look at it, he was an idiot for the response. I don't think he knows what exclusive means. 2k cannot make a licensed football game for consoles/pc. If they really want competition, why not go to the NFL and ask them to allow others to purchase the license?
