the scheduling is a bit wonky but they’re going with a 5 year cycle, protected rivalry games and rotating games for everyone else. Everyone will play a home and home, and no team will play the other more than 3 times (aside from the annual games) per cycle.

I know that back in the day, BYU would always get an extra game in years when they would play at Hawaii to help offset the additional cost of travel. I imagine that rule is still in place.

I don't understand why they wouldn't have the four western teams play a full round robin every year. That would cut down on travel a bit more for those teams and for everyone else.

I’m assuming they are going to pitch this as being okay assuming it evens out over the 5 year cycle?
Edit: Although for Oregon home/away is balanced 4 home games then 5 then 4, etc.

Knowing AP voters/playoff committee, whichever undefeated team loses in the B1G championship gets knocked down below the other undefeated teams that didn’t play in the ccg and then misses a playoff spot.
I was thinking about similar scenarios with multiple 1 loss teams where it might be better to be the 3rd or even 4th highest ranked team in the conference and avoid the ccg because it gives you a more likely path to the playoff. Whoever loses the ccg in that scenario ends up with 2 losses and falls to the bottom of the pack in the rankings.
