I imagine it has a lot to do with stay at home moms, guys at the bar. If the show everything in the morning/afternoon their primtime ratings would tank. The average american won't stream, lazy or doesn't know how

I doubt CBC's ratings go down that much. I think deadspin said that CBC/TSN (sorry chase)/SN had 1100+ hrs of Olympics to NBc's 500

NBC had its highest ratings ever for London while delaying stuff. For some reason, people are MORE likely to watch in primetime in the states if they already know the results. It's weird.

I think Canada is a lot more invested in the Olympic Sports, so they will do whatever watch. Down here it is going against Mike and Molly and some other shitty CBS shows like Mom :turrible:

Mrs. Goblue was watching the figure skating while I was snow blowing the driveway. She was saying that the problem is they use the same ice rink for figure skating and the short track speed skating. The problem is the two discipline require different ice consistencies and hardness and there isn't enough time between events to get the ice into optimal shape. As a result, lots of falls in figure skating.

Well the falls are all coming on the nearly impossible quad jumps, as I understand it. So lots of people risk these even if they stumble, they can still get a big score especially if they're good at the artistic stuff. I've only been half paying attention but that seems about right.

I think of it more as people don't want to sit through a bunch of bullshit and only care about the 'Murrican athletes for the most part, and the big name athletes for the rest of it. Basically Jingoism at its finest. I'm pretty much the same way. I like seeing a little bit of luge or bobsled or skiing, but I don't need to watch every single competitor go down the hill.

Fatty actually played the 9th end correctly and got lucky that Russia only got 1 in the 9th. That tied the game at 6 and gave the Fatty the hammer which he choked on in the 10th.

Fatty would have needed to steal multiple points in the 9th to make it worth his while since a steal of 1 would only make the score 7-5 and Russia would, most likely, get there two in the 10th to tie and force an extra end.

Statistically, Fatty made the correct strategy play in the 9th.

In the 10th, Russia's strategy is to throw seven guards and draw around any remaining guard with the skip's last shot in an attempt to steal one for the win.

Fatty's strategy is to keep the front of the house clean so he has a clear path to draw the house with his last shot to get his one and the win.

I think if the USA only get one point out of this, methinks they're still in good position to get a bye after the round-robin because Slovenia should be straightforward. At least on paper.
