Mr. Tennessee's NR 2003 Racing Legacy

Preface/Background

As my first 'official' post on this place [read: Dynasty thread], I would be remiss not to start this thread on a simulation of a game that I dearly enjoy.

As I hope some of you may remember, I started this idea back on May 9, 2007. The purpose was to build enough data to help work on a database and website. I have finished computer programming December 2012 (Associates) and now will go to DeVry (going here due to work purposes prevent me from going the traditional way) to get a bachelors in CIS (Database Mgmt). I have gotten about three seasons finished where I started in 1983 before real life got in the way and had to slow things down to a trickle. I think the end point I want to put on the legacy will be the 2013 season. That would be 30 years of racing and would make for a "career" of sorts. Of course, I will have to bring over all my old posts which will take some time, but it will be worth to finally finish it which should take some time.

I plan to follow a historical arch of sorts and have some twists in it as well. i.e. Alan and Davey finish out the 1993 seasons and "retire", while Neil runs some in the early 90s and "retires" drinking Country Time Lemonade, while Dale "retires" in 2002. As I hate these drivers all died way too soon, I felt taking creative liberties here would be good for my soul.

As many can remember, I had a NCAA 06 death-penalty Tennessee dynasty I started back in Summer 2005 while taking care of my great aunt who passed Sept 4, 2007. I started in the 2020 season after killing them off with quite a few zero-win seasons. I stop posting the results with the 2031 season on the website. However, I kept with playing the games in the legacy and finally finished late in 2012. So, it takes me a good while to get started and finished on something. With it being a hobby, I do find immense enjoyment out of it. The only thing I lack from starting back up on this is the racing wheel stand to put my wheel on. Once I get the one I've been looking at, I'll get back to posting race results and what not. Look for this to happen sometime in 2013. Not going to give a definitive date as I know better, but be optimistic knowing I will be back.

While most of the links I had posted that painted the cars for all theses series are pretty much dead/disappeared, I will still thank them for the cars, mods, tracks and utilities I have gotten over the years to make the game more enjoyable and in a way realistic. They are the following: sg3racing.com, rs-web-design, masgrafx.com, nnracing.com, simracingdesign.com, and riouxmods.com.

In the next few posts I am going to reserve space for each season so I can get it right this time. Then, I will re-post my races with some minor grammatical edits in them. Time/experience are always a blessing when you get more of it and use it properly/wisely.

My goal is to this time; get the dynasty right. I hope you'll find some enjoyment out of my enjoyment of this simulation and the results I obtain from it. I am grateful to all the people that have read my legacy over the years, it got more reviews than I ever thought it would. For that, I give many thanks.

Mr. T

EDIT: This was posted on the Flufftopia on 1/1/13 with the only change is the comment in brackets.

Basic Hardware/Software/Game Rules setup notes for this legacy:

[1983-1984 Seasons] Arcade Mode: Ran at 40% of the full races, computer AI strength was at 96%. I used an Alienware Gamepad till Hollywood gave me a Microsoft Sidewinder Racing Wheel.
[1985 Season]Simulation Mode: Ran at 50% of the full races and the computer strength @ 92%. Device used for racing: Microsoft Sidewinder that Hollywood gave me.
[1986 Season - Beyond (Lord willing)]Simulation Mode: Will be run at 50% of the full race and the computer strength at 92%. I will be using a Logitech G27 Racing Wheel.

Hopefully the better I get, the higher I can run the AI strength. The driver ratings are a secret recipe that I got from a hodgepodge of other places and made my own home-brew from it.

Cautions

And, before I forget. Many, MANY thanks to Sierra and Papyrus for all the years of racing enjoyment that was given to so many people.{/td}

1983 Daytona 500
Race 1 of 30

Daytona (AP) -The biggest race of the season is finally here, the Daytona 500. It is time to finally get the season underway. There were a few rookies in this year's field, and one that stood out was the driver of the #46 car. Qualifying with an impressive sixth he had hoped that the strong start would yield a strong finish. Too bad for him as Darrell Waltrip had other plans.

The Pole Sitter, Darrell Waltrip found out that the #11 Pepsi Challenge car was not up to stuff as he was frustrated and rammed into the #46 car coming off turn four. The BIG ONE had occurred. The poor Zaxby's car was the first to test how good the car could hold up upside down as Buddy Arrington slammed into the side of Mr T.

This is not cool at all.

Somehow the driver of the #46 car managed to make it to pit road. The #46 crew patched up the car as best as they could and set him out on his way. Three laps later, the flag dropped and the engine of the #46 car gave up the ghost. He wound up finishing 40th.

With the big one out of the way, the rest of the race was fairly boring. Tim Richmond dominated the race until his pit crew messed up in the closing laps. The tire changers failed to get a lug-nut off and those precious second lost wound up costing him the race. Ricky Rudd and Terry Labonte wound up fighting for the win.

Ho-hum Rudd wins.

That was the only race I was able to get converted over before OS destroyed us. :( I'll have to go and re-watch the races and do reviews of them again. That's what I get for not backing up the reports where I could find them easily. I do have the cars, tracks, mods, results, and most of the replays saved. I think I finally figured out a way to race again with my wheel I have so I hope I'll at least get this thing back to being updated on some sort of basis because this was a very relaxing game.
