Why is Monaco this weekend and not next?

I miss my Monaco in the morning, Indy 500 in the afternoon, and NASCAR Sponsored 600 in the evening. Mrs. Goblue makes french toast during Monaco. I boil up some brats between the 500 and 600 then finish them on the grill right before the start of the 600.

covid? Didn't they have to move some races around because they couldn't go into some countries until later or something like that?

Week between Spain and Monaco. Week between Monaco and AZE. To me, looks like a normal non-COVID schedule, to me.

So the 500/600 moved then, if it's normal non-covid schedule I'm not sure why you asked why Monaco was this weekend instead of next.

500/600 are always Memorial Day weekend. Pre-COVID, Monaco was on the same day. When I said normal schedule, I mean it doesn't look like the date of Monaco was moved to accommodate rescheduled/relocated races. I'll still be up on Saturday to watch Ferrari fuck up qualifying and on Sunday to watch Red Bull fuck up Max's pit strategy allowing Hamilton to walk to another victory.

Anyway, this is a cool feature on Monaco.

Man, I need to find some whale to book a cruise which stops in Monaco on race weekend. A friend of mine booked one of those for a guy with way too much money to spend and earned a $10k+ commission check for the booking.

I looked at the 2018 and 2019 schedule and it looks like it's where it's supposed to be (4th sunday of May) it just turns out there is 5 sundays this May

I actually hate the Monaco Grand Prix and think it should be scrapped to make way for a circuit that might actually produce some decent racing. It's just a procession.

its not even a race, its an "event". A spectacle. Mystique. Qualifying is more important than anything thats done on race day

Wow. Even for Monaco that was turrible. did I miss something as I'm pretty sure there wasn't a single overtake other than pit undercuts and overcuts anywhere in the entire field?

Monaco has always been bad, but with how big the cars are now it's impossible to pass. No one cares though, fast cars are just an excuse for the richest assholes in the world to show off their yachts and get a picture with a race car driver.

Lewis pushing the 'Brake Magic' button by accident and creating a scene more reminiscent of Mr Bean than F1 is my favourite moment of the year so far, even if I did want him to win.

when did this happen? From everything i've read, it sounds like he did it on his upshift after the restart. However sitting on the grid, his brakes were just PUMPING smoke out and nobody else seemed to have an issue. So i'm a bit perplexed on what exactly his issue was and when it occured

I don't know when he pressed it. Not even sure if he knew when. I would imagine it was by accident before the smoke came pumping out of the brakes, as maybe the smoke was a reaction to it not being on the correct setting.

lol that the F1 race was far more interesting than a NASCAR road course race on the same day. Nascar needs to get rid of that carousel corner. I like the course better with the carousel, but the racing sucks compared to the short course layout.

Seeing Hamilton stuff it into the corner because he accidentally a button is just too funny. Like hitting the gas instead of the brake or something.

Welp, Chip Ganassi is out of nascar at the end of the year. Not really surprised. But the fact that he got bought out by Trackhouse? lol. Fucking crazy.

That was a nasty crash, 51gs to the dome. I don't know anything about formula 1 still so while I know it was Hamilton's fault I'm not sure how much of it was his, most of r/formula1 are going in on Hamilton so I'm assuming it was on him. Hopefully Max is okay, I liked seeing Hamilton pressured.

it was close. He got a 10 second time penalty for a reason...so obviously he was most at fault. IMO, he was never going to make that corner at the angle he was going into it. Max could have given him another entire car width of room and he would have still made contact. That corner is way too fast to be going in that shallow. He was also wrong in that it was "his corner" because he was "ahead"...he was never ahead...and he was never going to make the apex in the line he was choosing. It was never his corner. But, he makes up 26 pts in the championship today due to it and we can just hope Max is able to come back next week. I know if I were Red Bull...i've got 3 other cars out there that would keep him from finishing one of the next few races. Maybe not the next one...dont wanna make it too obvious. But soon

The way I see it is basically everything after the wreck was a big douche canoe act by Hamilton, but I do see why he might challenge Max. I may be off base and from what I understand if you are to do this, then that turn is definitely not the place to do it. Max is extremely aggressive and doing that relies on other cars to give you room, if everyone knows you're going to be aggressive they will tend to back off to not wreck. Given Hamilton is actually being challenged this year he can't afford to give Max the benefit anymore. So he may have wanted to make Max think about being aggressive towards him the rest of the season, showing Max that he isn't going to get moved out of the way while they're competing for the title. He just chose a really bad place to make his intentions known.

I'm interested to see how this plays out, we might have a old school rivalry grow from this.

Cup cars are such trash on the IMS road course. Even worse after watching the indycars go twice as fast. The new car can't come soon enough.

rain...mercs don't handle the rain very well it appears. Also verstappen has a back of the grid penalty so he didn't even attempt

okay but Williams at 3? Even with Russell driving that seems like a feat

From what I can see they're going to have a controversy pretty quickly at Mercedes. If Russell is in a good car, he's going to get pole position every race.

maybe hes really, really good at controlling the car in the rainy conditions? His 2nd place was also in the rain. Also, i'm not sure, but I know that Lando was on slicks at the end when he turned his fast lap...did Russell have slicks on? DId any of the other cars? Theres probably a good answer in the analytics...i just don't wanna do the research, lol

Russell had slicks according to Reddit but his car is still shit.

That’s why everyone is amazed when he gets p9, so qualifying 3rd is amazing. I guess it makes sense to you, I thought he had the worst car in the field so maybe this isn’t impressive.

edit: forgot about Haas lol

I mean, Williams' are bad...but they continuously run in the 12-15 range...so they're not absolute dogshit like the Haas and Russell has flirted with points in most races. Hes also made it to Q3 in normal conditions...so I don't think its too crazy of a jump if you consider slicks vs intermediates and his ability on wet surfaces which hes now shown twice. But i'm watching from arms length, so who knows

we’ll see what he does tomorrow. I hope he gets a podium, the lack of consistency from rb/merc has made this season really fun to follow compared to the last two for me. I feel like a huge bandwagon fan but I really like mclaren and their lineup so I’m rooting for them

I'd be extremely surprised if he holds up for a podium, or even top 5-6. Especially if the track is dry and there are no big issues for the good rides.

I, too, like the mclaren lineup. Norris and Ricciardo are probably the two most charismatic, likeable drivers in the series. I'd be more than happy with a Norris flag to flag win tomorrow.

Russell isn't just a wet specialist. He's "Mr Saturday". He's an amazing qualifier, wet or dry. His stats have always been way above his team mates. The Williams would need a lot of things to happen for him to sustain that grid position though. It's arguable that we don't know how good he is in a race yet because he's only ever been in a Williams.

If Mercedes can keep him in his place as a number two whilst he learns more race craft from Lewis, he's going to make a hell of a team mate because I don't think anyone has any doubt that his qualifying in a Mercedes is going to be outstanding. If he puts it all together too soon we'll see a lot of controversy.
