Hahn Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis
Thursday, October 3rd, 2041
Key West Pirates's third baseman, Steve Hahn, had been feeling under the weather for some time. His legs tingled, his arms ached, and at times his vision blurred and he had trouble seeing the ball. After encouragement from his wife, Hahn went to see a doctor, who sent him to get an MRI done. The scan showed plaque located on Hahn's spine. The diagnosis: MS. "I had a feeling something was up, and I'm glad I saw a doctor when I did. I hope to play through this and stop when the doc tells me to."

Hahn has seen his error percentage increase and his OBP fall over the last month, and the slump may be attributed to his disease. Key West Pirates owner, Marcus Unknown, held a press conference yesterday to confirm the team's dedication to Hahn. "We in the Key West Pirates Front Office will work to see Steve through this tough time and hope he can stick with us as long as possible."

2042 Draft
Round 1 Pick 7 *acquired from Buffalo-trade.
OF Kevin Harvey

DOB:12/19/2023 (Age:18)
Height/Weight 6'5"/210 lbs

Breakdown: Big six foot five inch Harvey possibly is the most advanced high school bat to be drafted in some time. He is athletic enough to man the outfield but LF is probably gonna be where he stays. his defense will become average at best and he doesnt run well, but moves well enough for a guy his size. Known more for power than pure hitting, Harvey doesn't have great projection when it comes to average; excellent strength to drive the ball out to all fields but can get pull-happy with soft stuff away, which will create problems. Tremendous raw power, among best in the draft class; upside as 25-30 HR player in the big leagues; can put on a show in batting practice, driving balls out easily to all fields; excellent strength in wrists and powerful lower half create backspin that carries the ball. Aside from power, Harvey's best attribute right now is his ability to work counts and recognize pitches; has a tendency to let hittable pitches go by, which is going to hurt him against professional pitching, but he understands the strike zone so well that it won't be crippling.

Round 2 Pick 34
SS Bill Dennis

DOB:12/15/2020 (Age:21)
Height/Weight:5'9"/175 lbs

Breakdown: Key West decides to go with Bill Dennis with their second pick. Pick is somewhat a reach as he doesnt project to be able to stay at SS, his defense at best will be average and look for him to be moved to second. Dennis doesnt hit for power but he does put the ball in play, making contact and putting the ball in play will be his strength. he has an aggressive approach at the plate which wont lead to too many walks. He can run and will steal some bases for you but it wont be a tool that stands out

Round 4 Pick 53
OF Darren Peterson

DOB:03/04/2020 (21)
Height/Weight 6'0"/190 lbs

Breakdown: Key West was intrigued with Peterson's athleticism. Peterson is a threat on the basepaths and could average 35-50 stolen bases per season easily, that speed helps him cover a lot of ground in CF. Peterson has gold gloves written all over him. Silky smooth centerfielder who gets great jumps on balls off the bat and taking direct lines to balls make tough plays seem effortless. At the plate he has some work to do. His long swing hinders him from making good strong contact so he has some work to do to become a WBL player. If he can make progress with his bat Key West could have quite a find.

Round 5 Pick 83
OF Marvin Hammond

DOB:06/23/2023 (18)
Height/Weight 6'3"/210 lbs

Breakdown: Key West take another big High School Outfielder. He doesnt project as well as Harvey, but the kid has decent pop. Pirates love the kids work ethic and think his tools will play up with his hard work. he has played some 1B which the Pirates system currently lacks. look for a possible position move for Hammond.

Round 6 Pick 85 *acquired from Istanbul Ottomans - 3B Steve Hahn Trade
RHP Nick Hill
DOB:08/09/2023
Height/Weight 6'1"/180 lbs

Breakdown: Nick Hill is a finesse smoke and mirrors pitcher. Nothing he throws is straight. his best pitch is his change. He uses his slider, cutter and Knucklecurve and a funky delivery to add to his deception, that has a slight pause in his leg kick to try and throw off your timing. he pitches up, down, inside and out to keep you off balance. he will have to work hard if has any dreams to make it to the bigs. not seeing alot of projection here.

Round 6 Pick 99
1B Ed Roe

Round 7 Pick 115
SS Jim George

Round 8 Pick 131
RHP Aaron Shoemaker

Round 9 Pick 147
SS - Augusto Carrero

Round 10 Pick 163
RHP Misagenes Mugi

Round 11 Pick 179
RHP Ron Greer

Round 12 Pick 195
RHP Abdul bin Azhar

Round 13 Pick 211
RHP Jorge Trujillo

Round 14 Pick 227
RHP Vitaly Weschagin

Round 15 pick 243
RHP Trent Knowles

WHO IS NYASORE ADUMBE?

When the Pirates traded Kyle Riggall to the Amsterdam Tulips a lot of fans were unsure of who was gonna play shortstop for Key West in 2042. That answer will most likely be the teams #1 prospect Nyasore Adumbe. Adumbe was a 9th round selection by the Helsingborg Hammers in 2038 and released a little after 2 months signing with them. Three weeks later he gets an offer from Key West to a minor league contract.

He played 4 games in A ball and then got promoted to AA Yonkers right away. he spent the rest of that season there hitting .243 with 14 doubles and provided a good glove at short. Adumbe played all of next season at AA Yonkers and really excelled the last 2 months of the year. The organization thought he made enough of an improvement to promote him to AAA and add him to the 40 man roster. Triple A was too much for Adumbe and was sent back down to AA after only hitting .221 in 66 games at AAA Winston Salem. Having issues with the demotion Adumbe struggled at first, but came on strong to end up having a slash line of .307/.374/.475.

Most figured Key West would have him start the year at Triple A Winston Salem to start the year. That was all changed when Key West two time Glove Wizard Riggall was sent to Amsterdam. Now all eyes are on Adumbe, and his dream of playing in the big leagues is about to come true. Pirates seem to have enough confidence in him to name him the starter for a team that has won 2 consecutive South League titles, but has the strain of losing 2 consecutive game sevens to the Amsterdam Tulips put more pressure on the organization to make a move that seems to be boom or bust? We are all about to find out.

doh

THANK YOU Dermott McHeshi
Nice Duan signing… I really like what he can bring to the table. Just already had a good back up MIF for this year or I would've extended him. He had a 0.9 WAR (plus probably a better WPA with defense late in games) while hitting shit for me last year his defense was so good basically just playing as a defensive replacement. Very valuable player for a playoff type team.

Jochems gets chance at starting rotation.

Aldred Jochems will be moved to the starting rotation. He pitched primarily as the setup guy last year. Jochems is expected to be the #4 starter.

KEY WEST PIRATES
2042 SEASON
25 MAN ROSTER

STARTING PITCHERS
  1. Georgy "Silky" Keyworth:Acquired Last August in a blockbuster trade last August from Helsingborg Hammers. Keyworth was picked up for the playoff run. He went 5-1 with a 3.35 era down the stretch helping Key West capture their second straight SL title. he went 2-1 in the playoffs though, with a 4.62 ERA and the loss in game 7 of the WBL World Series to the Amsterdam Tulips. Entering his age 32 Season he is still one of the best pitchers in the league and still considered one of the few true "Aces".
  2. Oscar "Tip" Fontenot: This 26 year old Phenom had his best season in 2041. Fontenot posted Career Bests in wins (14), ERA (3.09), Innings pitched (203.2), Walks allowed (36), and Strikeouts (156). Oscar has a devastating fastball that sits at 95-97 mph to go along with his devastating curve ball and change up that he can throw for strikes at any time. He is still developing a slider that he throws every now and again to keep hitters off balance. Oscar would be an Ace on most teams, he gives the Pirates a very formidable 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation.
  3. Mark "Prowler" Clinch:Clinch Won the Wizard Award for the most outstanding Pitcher in 2040 after being acquired via trade form the Amsterdam Tulips. 2041 he had another typical steady season for Key West going 12-7 with a 3.74 ERA and hit the 200 innings pitched mark for the 9th consecutive time in his career. He was probably the Pirates best pitcher in the post season last year going 1-1 with a 1.66 ERA. Clinch has a 3 pitch mix that includes a slider, splitter and cutter. his cutter is his out pitch that he jams left handed hitters with and front-door, or locate on the outer half to righties with. expect another "steady" season from "The Prowler".
  4. Aldred Jochems: Aldred was called up last year and pitched out of the bullpen pretty much the whole year. he was so effective in the bullpen the Pirates actually used him as a closer for some time before trading for a closer. he was then moved to the setup role and was effective there. Pirates are hoping he can keep that effectiveness as the Pirates 4th starter in the upcoming season. Jochems has a curveball, Cutter mix and is developing a changeup. he can locate his pitches with good effectiveness but his changeup will be the story to his success. if he can throw that pitch for strikes consistently he "should" be fine.
  5. Yuda Mainaky: 24 yr old Yuda has been up and down with the Pirates the last 3 years pitching many different roles. pitched as a starter, spot starter long reliever and even as a middle reliever in the bullpen. Pirates hope he can lay claim to the 5th starting spot in 2042. Yuda has 5 pitches but none of them stand out. his Split is probably his best pitch and the one he throws the most. when locating the split Yuda can be effective, letting the other team just pound it into the ground for easy groundouts.
BULLPEN
  • Ragheb "Pasta" Fahd - Closer: Fahed was Acquired in a late season trade from Helsingborg Hammers. Fahd solidifies the back end of the Bullpen for Key West and is expected to close out games.
  • Levi Neuvel - Setup: Neuvel signed a 5 yr 13.5 million dollar contract during the off-season and Key West expect Neuvel to be the setup guy that will help shorten games and lockdown wins.
  • Hyun-chul Pak - Middle Relief: Pak a former starter with Key West has moved to the bullpen. even though Pak started 21 games last year look for him to spend most of his time in 2042 to bridge the gap in the seventh to get to setup guy. Pak can still get his fastball up to 95-97 mph and decent slider should be more than enough to work effectively out of the pen.
  • Felix Rojas - Middle Relief: Felix will be the only lefty in the Pirates pen. went 6-3 with 4.22 ERA in 90 appearances. will be the LOOGY for Key West.
  • Leonardo "Turtle" Ruiz - Middle Relief: Leonardo is a big "Teenage mutant ninja turtles" fan. so got the nickname "Turtle" because of it. This 20 yr old "Turtle" doesnt get shelled too often. he has a 95-97 mph fastball and a devastating changeup to work off of it. he is also developing a slider to go along with it. He has future setup/closer capability.
  • Jose Rivas - Middle Relief: Rivas was Key West's 2nd round pick in 2040. Works a mid nineties fastball with a power curveball. should be a solid addition to an already improved Pirates bullpen in 2042
  • Musa Saqr - Spot Starter/Long Relief:Saqr spent last year at Winston Salem AAA going 12-10 with 5.17 ERA. AAA is a hitters league so we will see how he fares in 2042 at the WBL level.

Catchers:
  • Sung-tae Kim: 2 years with Key West, Kim has been a 3.4 war catcher. At 35 he isnt showing signs of slowing down. Word is though he will platoon this year and get a little more time to rest his aging knees. Kim hit .282 last year with 26 HR's and 77 RBI. expect more of the same in 2042
  • Mike Adamic: Adamic will platoon against lefties this year. Adamic is a good hitter but struggles defensively behing the plate. in limited time last year he had a slash line of .356/.410/.500. So the Pirates want to find a way to get his bat in the lineup
Infielders
  • Mason Fazackerly - 1B: Fazackerly had another Outstanding season last year, hitting .365 with 36 HR's and a league leading 135 RBI's. At 26 years old Fazackerly is one of the most feared hitters in the league and one of the biggest reasons the Pirates have been repeat SL Champions the last two years.
  • Jae-Hong Hong - 2B: King Kong Hong as he is affectionately known in Key West. Hong is a the prototypical homerun slugger. Accruing 111 HR's in his first 3 seasons with the Pirates he also plays a pretty smooth 2B. the Athlete that he is, he played LF in 2041 and won the Glove Wizard Award for the position. The Bat is his calling card though, hitting .306 with 38 HR's and 131 RBI's last year.
  • Jeff Wall - 3B: Wall primarily came off the bench last year. hitting .275 in 200 at bats. Last years starting 3B Steve Hahn was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and traded off to the Istanbul Ottomans during the offseason. Wall now takes over the hot corner with a good glove and seems to have a decent bat.
  • Nyasore Adumbe - SS: in a somewhat surprising off season move the Pirates traded their two time glove wizard award winner Kyle Riggall to Amsterdam. So Adumbe inherits the starting SS position. He had a slash line of .307/.374/.405 with AA Yonkers Fisherman last year. A very good defensive shortstop he has great range and a more than a good enough arm to handle the position. Question will be is his bat good enough to handle the WBL?
  • Chi-ju Duan - Utility Inf: Duan is your prototypical defensive infielder, can play 2B,SS and 3B at Glove Wizard Capability. he will be used sparingly to give guys a day off here and there. Duan has a Casper bat, meaning its pretty much invisible.
  • Armando Garcia - 1B: Garcia will be the backup first basemen, With Fazackerly manning 1B, expect Garcia to be a spot DH or the primary pinch hitter off the bench. hit .305/.380/.414 with AAA Winston Salem last year.
Outfielders:
  • Dmitr "Scuttlebutt" Vajorov: Vajorov was flirting with hitting over .400 for the season last year. he ended up hitting .397 and getting the Wizard outstanding hitting award. Vajorov was a 9.0 war player for Key West last year hitting .397/.424/.579 primarily as the DH.
  • Christian "Dog" Gutierrez: Christian had a solid 2041 campaign hitting .292/.318/.373 and was also a Glove Wizard in RF. there is talk he will be moved to a utility Outfield role in 2042 with the free agent signing of Phil Thomas. Christian's reputation of not playing all out all the time, or even most of the time might have caught up to him. to get back in the lineup he needs to quit "dogging it".
  • Randy Terry: Terry came out of nowhere and burst onto the scene last year in his rookie season. Terry was Key West's 43rd overall pick (round 3) in 2038. Last year he hit .286 with 28 HR's and 71 RBI. he definitely has earned the starting LF starting job.
  • Phil Thomas: Thomas will man RF in 2042. the front office like his strike zone discipline and ability to hit for power. last year splitting time between Amsterdam and Istanbul he hit .270/.360/.514. Pirates front offices says they think he can hit better than those numbers. we will see.

Down on the Farm

Na was the 9th pick in the 2039 Draft. Sweet left handed teenage bat out of South Korea, was projected to be one of the better hitters in that draft. His first 3 professional seasons he disappointed in A ball hitting no higher than .248. in 2041 he was promoted to AA as a sink or swim promotion. Na responded and gave a slash line .317/.419/.547. Pirates front office was impressed enough to give him a shot at AAA Winston-Salem. He is answering the Bell in AAA as well, hitting .294/.409/.452. Na was given the dreaded "BUST" label after his first few years but has performed well the last two seasons to try and prove he can be a productive player. Na isnt gonna impress anyone with his glove or baserunning ability, but if he can keep his strike zone disciplin and keep that OBP around .400 and add a lil more pop to his bat he should be more than a productive enough of player to play in the WBL.

Does KEY have this one in the bag? (And is it time to put it on Cruz Control and give the rotation a rest?)

all joking aside, my Bullpen has been absolutely Stellar this year.

Leonardo "Turtle" Muniz
International Free Agent found by my Scout in 2038 out of Columbia. Muniz has moved into the Closer role after Fahd was traded earlier in the season. Muniz has 97-99 Fastball and a Bugs Bunny Changeup. Currently has 8 Saves with a 2.61 ERA. he is also posting a 10.6 K/9 and a 3.3 BB/9. another thing. he is 21 yrs old

Jose Rivas
24 yr Old Rivas was the 2nd Round pick for Key West in 2040. he currently is the Key West's setup man, but has shown Closer type stuff. he isnt overpowering Like Muniz is as his 6.05 K/9 shows, but hitters are only hitting .208 against him. His ERA of 3.41 is respectable along with 1.12 WHIP. he has managed 4 saves in a limited closer role and seems to look very promising

Patrick Evans
in 2036 Evans was moved to the bullpen while at Double A Yonkers and the move has seemed to be a good one. 27 yr old throws around 90-92, with a sharp Knucklecurve. ERA is a very decent 3.34 for a middle/Long relief guy. he currently has pitched 62 Innings in 46 appearances.

Aaron Bruce
Another minor league starter moved to the bullpen, tore his rotator cuff in 2036 and Key West felt the bullpen might be a better spot for him and his shoulder. he has pretty much improved every year since then and has become a reliable arm out of the pen. Groundball pitcher with a devastating slider. he works around 94-96 MPH. In 21 appearances has a 2.55 ERA and has looked good in a his short time with the club.

too bad my team stinks and cant give the bullpen leads to hold. lol
