Completely Awful Nebraska Football Thread - LOL blackshits

After last week there was a boat load of promise. But this week the old regime cast a spell of garbage futbol. And Northwestern benefited from it. The personal foul by Collins at the end was asanine.

Unless we spring some sort of upset, its shaping up to be a long winter. Thank God for Royals baseball and my fantasy beisbol league running year round.

Nebraska needs to hire Trev Alberts as their next athletic director after the red-headed stepchild is run off or Wisconsin is stupid enough to hire him away. Trev is currently the AD at UNO and has accomplished the following for UNO athletics:

1.) Transitioned the athletic department to division 1
2.) Hired one of the best college hockey coaches in the country (Dean Blais). Under him, they are currently ranked #2/#1 in the country in both major polls and they are coming off a frozen four appearance last year
3.) Got UNO moved into a better conference (first the WCHA before the BigTen decided to form their awful hockey conference, and then the NCHC which is clearly the best conference in the country).
3.) Got a new on-campus arena built for the ice hockey and basketball teams which is one of the nicest in division 1 college hockey
4.) Has the men's soccer program and men's basketball programs being competitive after only a few years of existence at the division 1 level

Some critics will point out that he disbanded UNO's football program and their historic wrestling program, but that's irrelevant here:

1.) UNO made a decision that the programs were not profitable nor sustainable under Title IX requirements if UNO were to move to Division 1. This was the only way UNO could have sustained their athletic program without bankrupting the university. Yes, the communication was handled poorly and the football players and wrestlers were justified in their anger, but UNO is better off for it in the long run.
2.) UNO also decided that their best path for success was to have a successful (and profitable) hockey program. He has poured every resource into accomplishing that goal and he turned the program into a national title contender in just 7 years.
3.) Trev is a former Husker linebacker from the glory days, so any notion that he would trash the football program is unfounded.

I have no doubt that he would treat Nebraska football as *THE* premier sport at UNL, just like he has done for UNO hockey. He would do whatever it takes to get Nebraska back on the right track. I also think that he could unite the fan base as a former player.

I support this. He has turned out to be a very good administrator. You don't always get that when you hire from within in and it's a "small pond", so they Nebraska should hire him while they can. He personal ties make it more likely he will stick around.

Mind blown that Trev Alberts of all people has turned into a good AD: thought he was one of the biggest retards on ESPN before he got canned, and that's saying something.

He was bad on ESPN, but I think that was mostly scripted for ratings. He and Mark May were supposed to fight, and then it got silly, and I think Trev just didn't want to be a laughing stock so he left rather than continue that schtick and lose credibility. Of course Lou Holtz then joined and they took it to a new level of ridiculous. However, Trev was pretty good as a commentator on CBS College Sports right after that. It was an obscure but fairly serious weekly CFB show. Then he got hired as an AD.

Right now UNO >>>> UNL. It killed me that UNOs wrestling program was shut down. While it burned bridges, the growth UNO has made since then is astronomical. Trev actually has allowed the entire athletic department to flourish, especially hockey.

UNL athletics has a lot of good parts, but the main cog Perlman and henchman Eichorst need to take a hike.

Since I have not been able to watch a lot of Nebraska this year, can someone who has tell me their take on Riley so far.

It's a dumpster fire. At this point, the only question is whether he will be as bad as Bill Callahan. He has pissed away at least two games by piss-poor clock management (BYU and Illinois for sure), and you can probably make the argument that he derped the Wisconsin game away by running the clock down rather than trying to get a first down on the last possession to ice the game.

To his credit, the players clearly don't give a shit either. The only reason I wouldn't fire Riley this year is because it doesn't look good for the next guy. However, I am guessing next year is going to be more of the same and him and gingerboy will be sent packing before the 2016 season is over. Whatever garbage offense he is trying to run is never going to work in the current BigTen. We are basically just Oregon State now.

Riley is doing a really poor job of using the players how they should be used. They are asking Tommy Armstrong to be a drop back passer and he is not. He never throws the ball away. ever. Also, He has thrown almost 100 more passes this year already and he still has 4 games to go. He needs to be running the zone read a whole lot more. They are not substituting any of the offensive lineman. The idea is to get a cohesive unit, but the talent on the OL was not great to begin with and this means they only get tired as the game goes on. The pass blocking is atrocious and forcing Tommy to throw on the run all the time which leads to int's. In each of the last 3 losses, the OL could have taken over, got 1 first down and the game would have been over. Who knows what they are asking the RB's. Each one of them has gotten time and produced, but it's musical chairs back there. No idea why the redshirt was pulled on Stevenson. The WR's are weapons-grade garbage outside of Westerkamp and Pierson-El. Way too many drops. Late in the 4th Q against northwestern, Nebraska was driving. Tommy evades 2-3 guys tosses it to Tariq Allen for an easy first down. It hits him right in the hands and he drops it. If he catches it, he runs for another 20-30 yards at least. That play absolutely killed any spirit Nebraska had.

On defense, the secondary is awful. They are asking the corners to man up on the outside and they get burned constantly which wouldn't be an issue but the safeties are not athletic enough to stretch the whole field. Seems like they always have communication issues as well. The LB's are performing admirably, all things considered. an already average unit got devastated by injuries. The DL is solid except for Gangwish and the Dzuris guy. Gangwish is constantly losing contain and it kills the coverage. The interior lineman are excellent, no problems with their production.

The season isn't over quite yet (might as well be, this team isn't winning 3 more games this year) but if they don't make a bowl game....wow the season is an abject failure. Going forward, the problems seem much more likely to be coaching failure's than personell defeciences. Didn't get any help from the schedule either. They haven't had a bye week and won't until after the Rutgers came. 11 straight weeks is a grind and the coaches haven't been able to make big adjustments or try new things. Fire the team into the sun, burn the stadium to the ground

OUT with the GOUT
Better up ur contract with Corch Riley, or Pat Haden will steal him away. Brady Hoke will be hired as head nutritionist.

Mark Mangino is the ideal candidate for head nutritionist.

On a somewhat more serious note. This might be the worst day in Nebraska football in over 20 or 30 years. I have never seen the team sink this low. I am only 35 years old, so my frame of reference goes only so far back.

This is becoming comically sad in Lincoln. I am seriously wondering what NU was thinking hiring a guy who has a ceiling at the floor of their previous coach.

Worst thing Nebraska ever did was fire Solich....10-3 in 2003 got him fired and Nebraska has never sniffed that high of a winning percentage in 12 fucking years.

Honestly, nothing is going to ever change until the sellout streak ends. There is no shortage of mouth breathing nebraska fans that will continue to part with their hard-earned cash to watch a shit product on the field because "her der...greatest fans in college football. Let's always support them no matter what!"

The best thing that could happen to Nebraska football would be for the fans to abandon the program. 2015 Nebraska football = Cubs under the Tribune Company's ownership. Shitty product with no incentive to get better because they still make tons of money.

Welp. We needed 17 players to beat Sparty...didn't expect that. Bo loses that game I feel.

Now, in grand 2015 Nebraska style we lose at the @RutgersMike like we know how to. Then, by the grace of god and leftover turkey, we obliterate Iowa and keep them from winning to be Ohio States bitch.

Kansas City Royals. 2015 World Champions. And I will not let you forget it.

Yeah i dunno bout that mang. Good win and all but this team lost to Purdue, hasn't had a bye week and its @Rutgers. I had this game pegged as a trap game at the start of the season.

Won't happen Riley isn't going anywhere. Untill Shawn Eichorst is fired we are stuck with Riley. Good news is that Harvey Perlman is gone in 2016, that opens up options to fire Eichorst.

I understand that most college football fans looking from the outside-in on the situation might not understand why a 9 win coach was fired, that's fine. But winning 9 games a year seems pretty empty when it never results in so much as a division championship, never mind a conference championship or top tier bowl game. This isn't the SEC West, it's the Big Ten West, expecting to finish higher than 3rd in our division every year isn't out of line. And let's not kid ourselves into thinking Pelini was on the doorstep about to burst through the door, we were winning 9 games a year against scrub programs and getting absolutely curbstomped by programs that are supposed to be our peer (namely Wisconsin). Or worse, we were inexplicably losing games to Minnesota, Iowa, Northwestern, etc.

Going 9-4 every damn year with no sign of improvement, no sign of change and not even a glimpse of even competing in our own division is why Bo Pelini was fired. Maybe he was a good coach, maybe Riley is worse, but a change had to be made and we'll live with whatever consequences that comes with. Judging by where Bo Pelini and the rest of his staff have landed, I'm guessing Nebraska fans aren't the only ones who think Bo Pelini and his handpicked staff of golf pros and grad assistants was in way over his head. Ironically, the golf pro was the best assistant coach hire Pelini made.

Bo is a fine coach, he might even work back up to the FBS level some day and he might even do well, but to think he had any business still coaching Nebraska is silly. He hated it here and it showed. I can only imagine the types of things he was saying to recruits. How can you sell a school to recruits if you fucking hate that school, its administration, its fans and the media that cover it? Bo is where he belongs, back home in a nice low stress job where the media isn't going to be down his throat for every little transgression on and off the field.

Hot but unfortunately accurate take:

Utopia has bled members not just because people get old and have kids, but also because the traditional powers from the turn of the century and even mid-2000s have been absolute ass for the past 10 years if not longer.

God, I forgot how insane TXHusker was lmao. Dude raged the fuck out on me because I beat him once in NCAA by scrambling for a first down to set up a FG; he sent me a message that said “That was PATHETIC” lol

Anyway, I feel bad for Shats but this is tremendous content

A-1 From Day 1
Feel like the huskers should have more to say this close to the season!

Hopeful prediction:11-3, lose to Miami, Wildcard, lose to ohio state in the B1G championship game. Win bowl game.

Likely outcome: 10-3 lose to wisky, Miami, MSU, win bowl game.

I think this team goes as far as tommy takes us, if he can improve his raw talent, he could be a premier player, if he doesn't could be a long season, regardless, a young improved husker squad can make great strides if they do the right things.

sleepers: Linebacking corp, and Imani cross

Problem areas: secondary, as always the line.
