They gave up a bunch of prospects that are far away and managed to keep most of their best prospects during last deadline and this off-season. Doesn’t bother me. Their window has opened. Darvish could be mediocre, but the upside is better than Davies. The 2022 rotation of Clev, Snell, Lamet, Darvish and Gore, plus Paddack, could be really good.

I am out on Paddack. I think Clevinger is done as a frontline starter for at least the next season. Hopefully Gore can get his shit together

Nobody in the top 10. I’ve followed their farm system closely the last 5 months or so and I haven’t even heard of most of them really to be honest.
Two of them I think were from the most recent draft and an international signing.

That why I said 2022 for Clev. I think Paddack can still be a fine back of the rotation SP. Seems weird to give up on him. Gore has done nothing but dominate. Not sure what shit he needs to get together.

The Padres top 20 might be better than a lot of teams top 10. I’m not sure Darvish at 35 and $20m per year is worth top 10 prospects.

I agree, but Bauer is going to be expensive. I don’t think they have enough money.

He’s seeking the highest AAV in history at $40m/yr over 5-6 years.

I must have missed where he became Pedro Martinez. He’s flashed brilliance here and there but has been consistently inconsistent. Most of his background says #3 guy, not legit ace.

This is a legit question: did he change something, develop a new pitch or something, that leads teams to believe Cy Young Bauer is anything more than an aberration?

He invents new pitches pretty often, lol. Bauer is constantly improving and utilizes the most cutting edge bio-mechanical analysis and data driven approach pitching, focus on spin rate, new pitches, increasing velo and mechanical efficiency, etc.

I’m not saying that he is worth a larger contract than Cole, and admittedly I geek out about this stuff being a former pitcher and coach, but I would love a guy like Bauer on my team.

Bauer's Real Sports segment was great. His personality though is why you could see the bigger clubs staying away. Always gets me 2 years after he and Cole went 1 & 3in the draft is when the Bruins won it all, though.

lost back to back years to Gata, but hear ya pq, Love's team lost to Calipari and Memphis when Howland refused to put Russ on Derrick Rose. Still mightily stings. /sigh

I'd be completely comfortable giving him a huge contract. As long as he doesn't become obsessed with something else, he's going to age well given how he's always working towards improving. He's an average athlete that made himself into a Cy Young winner. Pretty incredible.

I will say Bauer is really selling himself. I think he's got the personality that he could just Money Mayweather this shit and cut out the middle man

So he’ll be a great pitching coach in a few years. I like the brilliance of adopting advanced techniques...probably what Maddux would have been doing. I follow him on Twitter and like his personality, but I don’t really value that either way.

I can see where this could be a positive trend for him and believing he’ll keep pitching at a higher level than his career thus far, but I just can’t see a contract in the range he’s reportedly seeking. Cole has the results to back it up.

Ballot #114 is from first-time voter David Skretta. He submits a blank ballot. In his email, David wrote, "Those that I believe performed at a Hall of Fame level on the field did not reach that threshold in such areas as character and integrity."

OUT with the GOUT
RIP Tommy.

FWIW my son and wife got to meet him fairly recently when he showed up at a local smoothie bar in my hometown. My son got a picture with him and was told by Tommy, "Make sure you listen to your mother!"

Man, another great one gone. 2020 is like Donald Trump - just doesn't know when to get off the stage.
