1997 talladega race was run like 2 weeks after scheduled date. It got rained out on Sun and Mon and Sears Point was the next track, so NASCAR didn't think Tues was doable with the travel. It ended up being a caution free race when it finally ran.

8 laps in and it's already under caution for rain. Should started at 10 am. Could have been at the halfway mark by now.

43 car finally back to victory lane with Aric Almirola.

Pretty much saw the huge one today as well... Jeff Gordon gets an 11th place finish and didn't even have a car that could keep up with the field at the end. Michael Annett finishes 10 laps down in 20th.

wasn't it like 6 cars on the lead lap who weren't involved in one of the wrecks? There were about 16 or so cars on the lead lap at the end.

Pretty much. Think it was just the 43, 55, 41, 13, 3 and the 32 of Labonte who backed into an 11th place finish.

6th place Hamlin was considered to be in both wrecks, along with McDowell-7th, Danica-8th, Ambrose-10th, Gordon-12th (probably the most damaged of those mentioned). Bowyer spun in the last wreck, got 9th. Bowman was in the second wreck, got 13th. Jr. was in the first, couldn't stay with the draft, lost a lap twice, and finished 14th.

13 cars DNF'd, and 9 cars finished 10+ laps down damaged.

NASCAR's impound rule is dumb as shit for situations like this weekend. Cars are set up for one time and temp, race gets changed to completely different time/conditions and you can't touch the cars. But we'll throw a yellow flag after 20 laps to let you check things. Just let them make the changes pre-race, give them restrictions, time limit, whatever, but competition cautions are dumb.

I don't get competition cautions either. Its like NASCAR has this huge aversion to strategy, something that is a huge part of racing in my opinion. Its one of the reasons I don't watch much NASCAR anymore. The race at Road America last week is a perfect example, it starts to rain so they throw the caution. Why would you do that. How about you keep it green and let them change as they see fit so we can see a little strategy and find out who the real drivers are.

yeah they are awful with their promotions. Its odd because they do a decent job at presenting the races they just never promote them. They have Paul Tracy, Leigh Diffey and now Dave Hobbs. Its great to have Hobbs on both the F1 and Indy races.

They need a new crew for their NASCAR stuff. Watched a NASCAR show on there last night, and it had Leigh Diffey and Wally Dallenbach. Hearing Diffey talk NASCAR was strange. Hire Kyle Petty or someone. Surely Allen Bestwick can be bought out of his ESPN deal.

They should put Hobbs on nascar. Would be funny as hell.

NBC's show for NASCAR has like a different set of people every week.

They've had Frank Stoddard, Ricky Rudd, both Labontes, Jeff Burton, Rick Allen, Leigh Diffey, Kyle Petty, Dallenbach on that show and I've only seen it a few times.

Watch the final 5 minutes of that entire 91 Daytona 500 clip. Pure CBS magic.

My dad won tickets to that race from Winston cigarettes. The only race I've ever attended at Daytona.

Want something stranger? There's the ending to the 1976 Daytona 500...with Sir Jackie Stewart in the booth.

the schedule is pretty dumb with the travel. Some things have to be considered for weather, but other things make little sense.

Looking like Blaney/Chase Elliott/Larson have the cars to beat tonight so far. All three have spent time up front.

So where's that great IndyCar racing? This Toronto "race" has been hot garbage. Even the F1 race makes this look like soccer.

F1 actually has a time limit too, 2 hours if memory serves.

It was shitty race. They run half a lap, wreck. Many laps under caution. Rain falls. Run another half lap, wreck. More caution laps. Repeat ad nauseam.

Yesterday was even worse. They tried to run a race where the fucking FWD Honda pace car was spinning out. Fucking idiot officials. Pretty sure I could run that series better than the morons in charge, not kidding at all. Of course, I could probably run NASCAR better than Brian France too, but that goes without saying.

Street races are hereby banned from all US open wheel racing series, with the exception of Long Beach and maybe Baltimore. NASCAR can give it a shot if they want doe.

Don't ban Long Beach. Ban Long Beach and we'll overthrow you.

Baltimore is decent because Pensky makes damn sure its good. Long Beach isn't bad. What they need is to get in at Road America and Watkins Glen and then at COTA. Then they wouldn't need to run so many street courses.

Huh, an actually decent sized entry list for Sprint Cup this week featuring Matt Crafton in RAB's #29 and Bobby Labonte in TBR's #37. List could be higher if #44 and #77 which both teams said they would return for Indy were actually on the list.

If Bobby Labonte makes the field, only he and Jeff Gordon remain in the club of those who have raced in all 20 runnings of the Brickyard.

So I watched the Indy race. You guys are right what a mess. Worst race of the year by far.
